Track Places 11th at MAC Championships

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich - The Bowling Green State University track squad ended its 2003 outdoor season with an 11th place finish at the 2003 MAC Outdoor Championships. The Falcons as a team had 36 points. Eastern Michigan captured first place with 117.50 point, Miami finished second with 106 and rounding out the top three was Akron with 95 points.
Several Falcons registered NCAA regional qualifying marks that will compete on May 30-31 for a chance to take part in nationals. Sophomore Amber Culp placed third in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:42.07. Junior Alicia Taylor placed second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.84 to also advance to regionals.
On Friday senior Mary Willems finished sixth in the hammer throw with a throw of 54.00m (177 feet, 2 inches) that met the Regional Qualifying standard. That distance was a BGSU season best in the event.
Senior Amy Henry and junior Kerri McClung, had impressive showings at the Championships, just shy of a regional qualifying time. In the 100-meter hurdles Henry placed sixth with a time of 14.15 seconds. In the shot put McClung placed third with a mark of 47-07.00 and Chastity Galley placed seventh with a distance of 43-02.25.
