FALCON PLAYER NOTES
KRISTEN ANDERSON
Sophomore from Portland, Mich. ... 2003 marked her first season at BGSU after transferring from Eastern Michigan ... pitched in a total of eight games, making five starts ... had a 2-2 record, one save and a 2.46 ERA ... threw a complete-game five-hit shutout vs. Stony Brook ... picked up her save with 2 1/3 innings of one-hit shutout work at Ball State ... allowed six hits in four innings of shutout ball, as she combined on a blanking of Ohio in non-league play ... batted in seven games, making four starts as the designated player ... was 2-for-15 at the plate ... her double drove in the only run in a 1-0 win over OU in league play ... allowed only an unearned run and four hits in four innings in a start against Oakland ... was matched up against her sister, Julie, who was the Grizzlies' starting hurler in that game.
NATALIE ARMINTROUT
Freshman from Johnstown, Ohio ... appeared in two games ... had an at-bat in each game of the Stony Brook DH ... a catcher, made her lone start of the season in the first game, and was perfect in two fielding chances ... missed the final two months of the season due to injury.
SARA EDWARDS
Sophomore from Dublin, Ohio ... shared the team's Coaches Award, given to the player or players who embody traits such as spirit and a positive attitude, both on and off the field ... saw action in 10 games this year, making two starts ... starts came in leftfield vs. Stony Brook and Cleveland State ... made two pinch-hitting appearances, and appeared in six games as a pinch-runner ... had a stolen base, a sac bunt and a run scored in the Stony Brook game.
CANDACE FENTON
Junior from Ortonville, Mich. ... saw action in 25 games, starting 24 of BG's first 28 contests at first base ... missed the final month of the season due to an injury suffered in the opener of the April 2 Ohio DH ... hit .211 ... scored five runs and drove in two ... had back-to-back two-hit games vs. Morehead State and Virginia ... scored two runs vs. MSU ... in the field, had a .995 percentage, making just one error in 186 total chances ... scored six runs and had two RBI ... had 14 putouts vs. Illinois State and 11 against both Seton Hall and Stony Brook ... hit .222 in MAC play, with a pair of hits in nine at-bats.
STEPHANIE FINKEL
Sophomore from Columbus, Ohio ... named the Falcons' Most Improved Player ... in her first playing season, saw action in 38 games ... made 28 starts, including 24 in rightfield and four as the DP ... made her initial collegiate start vs. Detroit in late March, and started all but three of the final 31 contests ... hit .191 on the year ... her 15 hits include three doubles and a triple ... had two-hit games vs. both Ball State and EMU ... had a total of six RBI on the year, driving in a pair vs. Stony Brook, Toledo and BSU ... sat out the 2002 season as a redshirt.
ABBY HABICHT
Freshman from Edwardsburg, Mich. ... played in 45 games, making 41 starts ... started 38 games at second base, with one start each at catcher, first base and DP ... batted .208 on the year, with two doubles among her 22 hits ... scored five runs and had 11 RBI ... had two hits vs. Marshall in her collegiate debut ... also had two-hit games vs. Stony Brook, Akron and Cleveland State, scoring a pair of runs in the latter contest ... had two RBI vs. Stony Brook and in two of this year's games vs. Toledo ... hit .229 in MAC play.
LINDSAY HEIMRICH
Freshman from Waterville, Ohio ... appeared in a total of 44 games, making 42 starts ... started 28 games at first base, 13 at the DP slot and one as pitcher ... hit .273, good for fifth on the team ... had five doubles among her 35 hits ... scored 17 runs (fourth on the team) and drove in eight ... started all three games in the MAC Tournament, tying for the team lead with two runs ... had a 3-for-3 game with three runs scored at Morehead State ... that effort was part of an 11-for-19 week (.579) which resulted in her being named MAC Player of the Week ... led BG with nine sac bunts ... went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored in league tourney win over Northern Illinois ... had a total of eight two-hit games, including three in a four-game span in mid-March ... drove in a pair of runs vs. both Marshall and Stony Brook ... scored two runs in win over Toledo ... in the circle, made six appearances, drawing a start at Cleveland State ... had a 5.07 ERA and no decisions ... walked just two batters and struck out 12 in 9 2/3 innings ... threw a scoreless inning at Oakland, with a pair of K's ... several days later, threw two innings of one-hit shutout ball at NIU ... that was her lone pitching appearance in MAC play.
McKENNA HOULE
Senior from Grass Lake, Mich. ... went 2-8 on the year, with a 5.25 ERA ... appeared in 16 games, making 13 starts ... wins both came in MAC play, vs. Toledo and Akron ... threw six innings of three-hit shutout ball vs. Illinois State, but left with the game still scoreless ... struck out a season-high five without allowing a walk in that game ... threw 2 2/3 innings of one-hit shutout ball in that UT game, getting the win in relief ... had a 2-2 record in MAC action.
JODY JOHNSON
Junior from LaGrange, Ohio ... in late April, was named the BGSU Female Junior Scholar-Athlete of the Year ... pitched in 22 games, making 10 starts ... also made one start at third base ... in the circle, had a 5-5 record and a 2.59 ERA ... in MAC action, had a 4-1 record and an ERA of just 1.34 ... her five complete games included a two-hit shutout at New Mexico State in the season's first weekend ... for that effort, was named the MAC Pitcher of the Week ... threw the final six innings of a shutout win over Ohio, allowing only three hits ... pitched 4 1/3 innings of two-hit shutout ball in relief at Central Michigan ... final regular-season outing was a complete-game five-hitter in a 5-1 win over Eastern Michigan on the season's last day ... threw a scoreless inning vs. Central Michigan in MAC Tournament play ... had three at-bats this year ... scored a run in a pinch-running appearance at Louisville.
JENIFER KERNAHAN
Junior from Perrysburg, Ohio ... played in all 53 games, making 51 starts at catcher and one as the DP ... hit an even .300 on the year, good for third on the team ... had nine doubles and four homers among her 45 hits ... scored 17 runs and led the Falcons with 35 RBI ... had a .980 fielding pct. ... second on the team with six sacrifice bunts ... hit .313 with a team-high 19 RBI in MAC play ... also led the Falcons with a .537 slugging pct. in conference games ... overall, had 10 multiple-hit games, including three-hit contests vs. Miami (3-for-3 with two doubles) and Cleveland State ... went 4-for-5 in the Miami DH ... that was part of a week in which she hit .500 and was named the MAC Player of the Week (April 14) ... had three RBI vs. both Morehead State and Stony Brook ... had two RBI in nine contests, including three games in a four-game span in the regular season's final week ... homered vs. Seton Hall, Western Michigan, Akron and Eastern Michigan ... drew 18 walks, second-most on the team ... scored a run in six consecutive games in mid-April ... had a hit in two MAC Tournament games, driving in BG's lone run in the Marshall contest.
KANDICE MACHAIN
Senior from Tucson, Ariz. ... started all 53 games in centerfield ... batted .276, the fourth-best average on the team ... was third on the Falcons in both runs scored (29) and hits (50) ... had eight doubles, a triple and three homers this year ... led the Falcons with a .346 batting average in MAC games ... had all three of her homers and a .506 slugging pct. in conference action ... had three hits in four games, all in MAC play (vs. Toledo, Ball State, Akron and Eastern Michigan) ... scored two runs in eight regular-season games, including in two of the three EMU contests in the regular season's final weekend ... ended the year with an 11-game hitting streak ... had one hit in each of the three MAC Tournament games, with a run scored and an RBI in the Northern Illinois game ... had a two-RBI game vs. Virginia ... had a double, a homer and two runs scored vs. Toledo ... other long balls came vs. Western Michigan and Ball State ... made just one error in the field this year (.980 fielding pct.) and had 10 outfield assists.
MARLA MURPHY
Redshirt sophomore from Marion, Ohio ... played in 37 games, making 31 starts ... had 15 starts at second base and 16 as the DP ... shared BGSU's Coaches Award, given given to the player or players who embody traits such as spirit and a positive attitude, both on and off the field ... batted .208 with nine runs scored ... hit .250 in the MAC Tournament (2-for-8), with singles vs. both Northern Illinois and Marshall ... in six pinch-running appearances, scored four times ... had two hits vs. Ohio (non-conf.), Toledo and Eastern Michigan ... drove in runs in the first two of those games.
GINA RANGO
Freshman from North Lima, Ohio ... a Great Lakes All-Region First-Team pick, just the third in school history ... BG's lone All-MAC First-Team selection in 2003 ... one of the top newcomers in the MAC ... was named BGSU's offensive MVP ... started all 53 games this year, 52 at third base and one as the DP ... led the Falcons in hitting, with a .364 batting average ... also paced the team in runs (34), hits (60) and total bases (88), while finishing second in at-bats (165), doubles (13), homers (five), RBI (27), slugging percentage (.533) and on-base pct. (.401) ... total of 60 hits ties her for the second most in a season in school history, while her total of five homers deadlocks her for fourth on that single-season list ... had a team-high 18 multiple-hit games, including five three-hit contests ... went 2-for-3 with a homer, two runs scored and two RBI in her collegiate debut, vs. San Jose State ... that same weekend, was 3-for-3 with a double, a homer and three RBI vs. Southwest Texas ... for those efforts, was named to the all-tournament team at the New Mexico State tourney ... hit .400 with a slugging pct. of .867 in her initial collegiate weekend ... had four-straight two-hit games in early March ... had four hits, including a homer, and five RBI in a DH at Morehead State ... was 6-for-11 in three-game sweep at Ball State ... had a double, a homer, two runs and three RBI in middle game of that series ... scored three runs vs. Toledo, and scored two runs in six other games ... hit .338 in MAC action, good for second on the team, and had 16 runs and 12 RBI in the 24 games ... had a pair of hits, including a homer, and drove in two runs in MAC Tournament win over Northern Illinois.
VALERIE TIPTON
Junior from Willard, Ohio ... played in 31 games, starting 21 times ... made 18 starts in rightfield and three at DP ... hit .182, with 12 hits ... had two runs and four RBI ... went 1-for-1 in MAC Tournament win over Northern Illinois ... had two-hit games at both Morehead State and Cleveland State ... went 1-for-1 with a two-run single in a 2-0, eight-inning win over Illinois State ... also had RBIs vs. Louisville and Ball State ... scored vs. SW Texas and Ohio.
LIZ TUZA
Redshirt junior from Toledo, Ohio ... played in 33 games, making 18 starts ... started 11 times in right and seven games as the DP ... hit .121, with five runs and seven hits on the year ... had a double and an RBI in the season opener, vs. San Jose State ... 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI in non-league win over Marshall ... scored three runs in the Stony Brook DH, including two in the second game ... drove in a run in each game that day ... made 10 pinch-hit appearances, most on the team.
LIBBY VOSHELL
Senior from Brighton, Mich. ... started all 53 games at shortstop, and batted third in every game ... hit .351, second-highest average on the team ... led the Falcons in homers (six - tied school record), doubles (14), slugging pct. (.563), walks (25) and on-base pct. (.446) ... was second with 33 runs scored ... had 25 RBI, tied for third on the Falcons ... led BG with a .375 average in the MAC Tournament ... had a slugging pct. of .875 and an on-base pct. of .500 in the three games ... had a three-run homer in the tourney win over Northern Illinois ... her two-run homer was the difference in a 3-1 win over #14 Michigan ... went 4-for-4 in the final regular-season game, vs. Eastern Michigan ... had an 11-game hitting streak, tied for BG's longest of the season, before going 0-for-1 (with two walks) in the final game of her career ... had three-hit games vs. Morehead State and Stony Brook, and had nine two-hit contests ... was named to the all-tournament team at the New Mexico State tourney in the season's opening weekend ... scored two runs on seven occasions, and had four two-RBI games and the three-RBI contest vs. NIU ... drove in a run in six-straight games, culminating with that MAC Tourney game vs. Northern ... had a pair of doubles vs. Louisville ... homered vs. San Jose State in the season opener ... also went deep vs. Steon Hall, Stony Brook, U-M and Ohio ... also had a double, two runs scored and two RBI in that OU game ... drew two walks on five occasions, including three in a five-game span in mid-April ... hit .333 with a team-high 17 runs scored in MAC play ... led BGSU with seven doubles and a .443 on-base pct. in league action.

Freshman from Allison Park, Pa. ... an All-MAC Second-Team selection ... was named BG's Defensive MVP ... had one of the finest pitching campaigns in school history ... led BG pitchers in nearly every category in 2003 ... went 17-11 with an ERA of just 1.12 ... made 32 appearances in the circle, starting 24 times ... had 18 complete games, including six shutouts, and combined on two other shutouts ... walked just 42 batters and struck out 168 in 174 1/3 innings ... opponents batted just .171 against her ... threw seven innings of three-hit shutout ball in BG's MAC Tournament-opening win over Northern Illinois ... was named the MAC Pitcher of the Week in three consecutive weeks, beginning on March 31 ... threw three one-hitters, all in MAC play, vs. Ohio, Akron and Toledo ... struck out 10 batters in wins over Louisville and Stony Brook ... threw a complete-game five-hitter, allowing only an unearned run in a 3-1 win over #14 Michigan ... had complete-game two-hitters vs. UL and UT ... had a streak of 25 2/3 innings, covering seven appearances, without allowing an earned run from mid-February to mid-March ... then, had a streak of 38 1/3 innings without surrendering an earned run over the first half of April ... had a 9-6 record and an ERA of just 1.07 in MAC games ... on the year, had a fielding pct. of 1.000 in 53 chances.
CRYSTAL WILSON
Senior from Toledo, Ohio ... played in 52 games, starting 51 in leftfield ... hit .241 on the season, with four doubles and a pair of homers among her total of 35 hits ... tied for third on the team with 25 RBI ... both of her homers came with the bases loaded, in back-to-back home games, vs. Akron and Toledo ... grand slams were BG's only two of the season ... had one career homer in her first three-and-a-half seasons prior to the UA game ... became only the second Falcon to hit two grand slams in a career, much less in the same season ... had a three-hit game vs. Detroit, and had four two-hit contests ... hit .265, good for fifth on the team, in MAC games ... was second on the Falcons with 15 RBI in conference action ... went 2-for-3, including a double, in the MAC Tournament game vs. Marshall.
