CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference office has authorized the release of the MAC Academic Honor Roll for the 2002-03 academic year, and nine members of the Bowling Green State University football team were among those honored. The BGSU athletic department had a total of 122 student-athletes selected.
To be eligible, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher. True freshmen and first-year transfers are not eligible, as a student-athlete must have attended the institution for an entire year to qualify for the award.
For the football Falcons, the nine honorees include seniors Pat Fleming and Chris Haneline, redshirt junior Rick Mauer, junior Josh Harris, redshirt sophomore Andy Grubb, sophomore Daniel Sayles, and redshirt freshmen Aaron Burkart, Jonathan Culp and Mike Thaler. (Note: each player's year of eligibility reflects the 2002-03 academic year).
The 2002 Falcons went 9-3 overall and finished with a MAC mark of 6-2. The Brown and Orange of first-year head coach Gregg Brandon will open the 2003 season with a home contest vs. Eastern Kentucky on August 28.
BGSU's list of honorees follows. The cumulative GPA figures for each student-athlete are through the fall, 2002, semester, as the nominations were made before the conclusion of the spring, 2003, semester.
