Bowling Green, Ohio - Bowling Green State University men's basketball coach Dan Dakich has announced a 29-game schedule which includes a home game against a Big Ten squad, a possible ESPN national tournament appearance, a trip to Hawaii, its third visit to Michigan in four years, and three MAC home games against teams which have not played in "The House That Roars" in more than two years.
"Scheduling is as difficult and frustrating a proposition as there is at BGSU," said Dakich. "Despite that, we feel that this is an extremely competitive schedule for our situation."
For the second time in three-years, a Big Ten school will visit Anderson Arena. Northwestern will play in front of the Orange and Brown on December 6. The Falcons also conclude a four-year contract with Michigan in Ann Arbor on December 13. BGSU also will visit Hawaii for the second time since 1999 when it plays in the prestigious Rainbow Classic, December 28-30.
The Falcons also could play a nationally televised non-conference opponent as part of ESPN's Bracket Buster Saturday on February 21. Last year, BGSU played in the first-ever Bracket Buster event and played on the road on ESPN2 at Illinois-Chicago. In each of the last two years, BGSU has appeared at least once on national television.
Other non-conference games include a home matchup with Detroit (December 18) and road trips to Bradley (November 29) and IPFW (December 10). BGSU also hosts Urbana (November 21) and will host NCAA II Tournament participant Findlay (November 25) in what should receive strong local interest.
The MAC schedule begins December 3 at Buffalo with BGSU opening league play at home on January 3 against Eastern Michigan. Defending MAC champion Central Michigan (2001), Ohio (2002) and Marshall (2002) will make their first trips to BGSU in more than two seasons. The Falcons' January 18 game with CMU is a likely candidate for regional television.
