Orlando, Fla. - Bowling Green dropped a 1-0 decision to host Central Florida on Friday night at UCF Soccer Complex in Orlando, Fla. Central Florida's Eric Vasquez scored the game's lone goal at 60:51 for the 1-0 victory.
BGSU drops to 1-1-1 overall while UCF improves to 3-1-1. Neither team scored in a hotly contested first half that UCF controlled territorially with a 10-5 advantage in shots. BGSU countered with a 10-3 margin in fouls that included three yellow cards.
In the waning 10 minutes of the first period, both squads had the opportunity to get on the board. Vasquez had a chance point blank that was saved by Falcon keeper David DeGraff. Five minutes later, BGSU's first shot on goal by Omari aldridge proved dangerous, but was denied by sophomore Ryan McIntosh. Senior Chris Beaulac also had a bullet in the final seconds of the period that DeGraff stopped.
Vasquez found the back of the net at 60:51. Off a throw-in by sophomore Billy Judino, he gathered the ball and dribbled between defenders to score far side. Later, the Falcons had the chance to tie the score on a shot by Dustin Snyder when McIntosh was caught out of the net, but senior Brian Malec preserved the shutout by making a sliding save with his feet. The Golden Knights nearly went up 2-0 on a pass from senior Tobias Kronberger to sophomore Alejandro Gessen, but the play was ruled offsides.
UCF outshot BGSU by a 22-7 margin, including a 10-3 advantage in shots on goal. McIntosh made two saves for the Golden Knights, while DeGraff had nine for the Falcons.
The Falcons travel to Stetson on Sunday for a 1 p.m. match.
