BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Susie Norris is the Bowling Green State University Scholar-Athlete of the Week. Norris, a senior on the BGSU volleyball team, helped a Falcons to a tournament title for the second time in as many weekends.
Norris, a native of Bascom, Ohio, hit a team-high .319 as the Falcons went 2-1 and won the Mark Twain Hotel Invitational in Peoria, Ill. She was named to the all-tournament team after averaging 4.17 kills and 4.92 digs per game on the weekend, leading BGSU in both categories.
Norris also led the Falcons in kills (50) service aces (8; 0.67 per game) and digs (59). In the Falcons' win over host Bradley, Norris had 16 kills and tied her career highs for both digs (30) and service aces (6). She had 14 kills and 17 digs vs. UMBC, then hit .529 (20-2-34) with 12 more digs in a win over Eastern Illinois. Norris has recorded at least 11 digs in all six matches, and has had five double-doubles in the six matches this year.
Norris, an elementary education major, has a cumulative grade point average of 3.86.
The Falcons, 4-2 on the young season, now host the BGSU Invitational at Anderson Arena on Sept. 12-13. BGSU will compete against Iowa State, Murray State and West Virginia in the two-day, round-robin tourney.
