Oakland Leads After Day One of John Piper Intercollegiate

Bowling Green, Ohio - Oakland University leads after two rounds of the 3rd Annual John Piper Intercollegiate, hosted by Bowling Green State University at Stone Ridge Golf Club. The Grizzlies lead at the end of day one with a team score of 574 (292, 282).
OU is ahead by 15 strokes of second-place Ohio, which has a team score of 589 (293, 296). Butler is third (591), followed by host BGSU (592) in fourth place and Detroit-Mercy (594) in fifth place.
Oakland's Brian Stuard and Butler's Colin Christie are tied for the tournament lead with a 36-hole score of 142. Stuard's score is thanks in large part to a 3-under par 69 in the second round. Christie shot a first-round low of 70.
For the host Falcons, fifth-year senior Adam Balls is tied for seventh place with a score of 145 (74, 71). It is Balls' first tournament for the Falcons since the Mid-American Conference Championship in May, 2002. Redshirt-sophomore Tommy Lopez is tied for 13th with a score of 148 (72, 76). Other Falcons placing include redshirt-junior Craig Pickerel (T-22nd, 150), sophomore Heath Ziglar (T-30th, 153), and sophomore Christopher Leake (T-32nd, 154).
The 54-hole tournament is named after former Falcon coach John Piper, who led the Falcons to three MAC Championships from 1970-82. Piper still resides in Bowling Green.
Play will conclude Tuesday, Sept. 16, with one final round beginning with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Stone Ridge Golf Club is designed by Arthur Hills and is located west of Bowling Green.
