Indianapolis, Ind. - Almost a year to the day since its last tournament championship, the Bowling Green women's golf team captured the Butler Fall Invitational at Eagle Creek Golf Course in Indianapolis, Ind., on Tuesday. The Falcons carded a two-round team score of 643, thirteen strokes better than second-place Western Kentucky (656).
The last tournament BGSU won was its own Falcon Invitational on Sept. 22, 2002 at Forrest Creason Golf Course.
At the Butler Invitational, the Falcons bettered their first-day score of 323 carded on Monday by three strokes with a 320 on Tuesday. Both scores were the lowest recorded by any of the 11 teams in the two-day tournament.
The win was aided by three top-10 finishes by BGSU players, including senior Jenny Schnipke who finished second with a score of 156 (79-77), senior Julie Wise who placed tied for fourth with a score of 160 (78-82), and freshman Kari Liggett who finished tied for ninth with a score of 163 (85-78). Sophomore Amanda Schroeder placed tied for 12th with a score of 164 (81-83) while senior Kari Evans finished tied for 45th with a score of 181.
For Wise, her fourth-place finish was the highest placing at a tournament in her career, while her first-round score of 78 was one off of her personal low. Schnipke's second-place finish was her highest finish since capturing the Eastern Kentucky Invitational last fall.
BGSU returns to action in two weeks when they travel to the Wolverine Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich. (Oct. 4-5).
