Falcons Play Four of Next Five On the Road
Bowling Green travels to the "Great North" this weekend for a two-game series at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (Jan. 23-24). The Nanooks are tied for second place in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association with 20 points while BGSU moved out of last place this past weekend and has 11 points.
BGSU vs. Alaska Fairbanks
The Falcons are 13-11-2 against the Nanooks all-time, including 7-5-2 at home, 5-6-2 in the frozen tundra, and 1-0-0 on neutral ice. In the last 10 games the Nanooks hold a 4-3-3 edge, though.
Alaska Fairbanks Nanooks
UAF moved into a tie for second place in the CCHA with a sweep of Northern Michigan last weekend in Fairbanks. The Nanooks are 9-1-0 at the Carlson Center this season with its only home loss coming in the home opener vs. Alaska Anchorage (3-2). On the road the Nanooks are 2-10-0.
Road Less Travelled
The Jan. 2-3 series at Minnesota-Duluth kicked off a busy beginning to the second-half of the season for BGSU. The Falcons have travelled to Duluth, Minn. (Jan. 2-3), go to Fairbanks, Alaska this weekend (Jan. 23-24), and Omaha, Neb. (Feb. 6-7) over a 36-day period. The total land distance from Bowling Green to those destinations is 5,216 miles.
Sigalet Tabbed Defensive POW (Jan. 19)
JR Jordan Sigalet stopped 79 of 82 shots faced (.963 pct.) in two games vs. Michigan State to help the Falcons to a weekend split at the BGSU Ice Arena and earn CCHA Defensive Player of the Week honors. In 118:46 minutes of action, the junior held the third-best power-play unit in the CCHA to 1-for-11 with the extra man. In Saturday's 3-2 win, Sigalet stopped a game-high 40 shots, including 21 in the critical third period. The 40 saves marked the 12th time in his career and fourth time this season he has stopped 40 or more shots.
Sigalet Leading the Nation
Jordan Sigalet leads the nation with 734 saves (30.58 pg) and 1469:14 minutes played in 24 games. Except for 8:43 of empty-net time, Sigalet has been between the posts the entire time this season for BGSU. At this rate, Sigalet is on pace to finish with over 1,000 saves and challenge the school record set by Tyler Masters in 2000-01 for saves in a season (1,087).
