BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Bowling Green State University's Jennifer Roos has been elevated to associate head coach of the Falcon women's basketball team, head coach Curt Miller has announced. Roos is entering her fourth season on Miller's staff, having joined him in Bowling Green as an assistant coach in July of 2001.
"I'm excited for Jennifer to receive this promotion," said Miller. "She's an outstanding coach that has helped raise the level of the BGSU program since our arrival here. Jennifer is beginning her 12th season on a Division-I sideline, and her future is bright as a head coach in this game."
Roos helped the Falcons make quite a magical run in 2003-04. BGSU, picked to finish sixth in the Mid-American Conference's West Division, tied for second place, just a game out of first. The Falcons, who finished 21-10 overall, went 11-5 in league play and advanced all the way to the championship game of the MAC Tournament.
"I owe so much to Coach Miller for this opportunity and his belief in me as a coach," said Roos. "He has been very instrumental in supporting me and nurturing my development as a coach. He and John Filar (former head coach at Davidson) have had an enormous influence on me both professionally and personally. Not a day goes by where you do not learn something new in this profession, and I have been extremely fortunate to learn from the very best at the collegiate level."
Roos is in charge of the Falcon defense, and also serves as the team's recruiting coordinator. The Falcons have greatly improved defensively since Roos arrived in BG. In fact, the Brown and Orange set a 'modern-day' record by allowing opponents to shoot just .388 from the field in 2003-04, marking the third-lowest opponent field-goal percentage in school history and the lowest since 1977-78. Falcon teams have posted two of the school's top-five totals in that category over the last three seasons, including a .400 opponent FG pct. in 2001-02.
"Jennifer is the defensive coordinator of our team," said Miller. "And, there is a direct correlation between her leadership in that area and our defensive success."

Roos, a native of Louisville, Ky., graduated from Davidson in 1993, with a B.A. in history, upon which she began her coaching career at the school. Roos was a member of both the 1991-92 Davidson club team and the 1992-93 varsity squad. The latter season marked the varsity program's first after a six-year absence.
During the 1992-93 season, Roos was the sole upperclassman among the team's starting five. She led DC in minutes, steals and assists, and was one of only two players to start all 22 games.
Roos was also a standout in field hockey during her undergraduate years, and was a four-year letterwinner and three-time MVP for DC. Roos led the 'Cats to a 50-15-6 record in her four seasons, and helped the squad to three consecutive conference championships.
"The unyielding support and hard work that has been put into this program by the administration, community, boosters and the players has been very rewarding," said Roos. "This program has evolved so much in the past three years, and I am looking forward to being a part of its growth in the years to come. I am extremely proud to live in Bowling Green and wear orange and brown."
