Bowling Green, Ohio -
BGSU Coach Gregg Brandon:
"It was a good effort on both sides of the ball and the kicking game. Everybody got to play and that's awesome."
"I thought Omar was outstanding. He really executed in that first quarter. The first half we pretty much moved the ball at will, which we knew we could do if we executed. That was good to see. We felt that we needed to set the tempo early, get points early, give our defense a big lead. It allows are defense to be a little more free willing. Kids can play with a litte more free will."
"Our defense is doing a nice job keeping people out of the end zone. The defense dominated them. Most of their yards were when our twos, our threes and even our fours were in there. So that was real encouraging. We felt like guys that were single-blocked, we could get some guys free. I thought we had some great pressure from our tackles up front."
"We got pressure on him (BSU quarterback Cole Stinson). I like the kid. He's a big, strong kid and as soon as he gets some more game experience I think he's going to be pretty good."
"Deaudre Perry did a nice job, Mike Crumpler played a lot and did a good job for us, Brian Jackson, those kids are going to be players for us sooner rather than later and they showed up today and did a good job for us."
BGSU Quarterback Omar Jacobs:
On why the offense worked so well in the first half...
"Knowing that they play a lot of man zone, matching our receivers up against their secondary, we think we have better receivers than their secondary."
"A MAC West win is always big, we have to win out the rest of the year."
BGSU Running Back B.J. Lane:
On his 93-yard kickoff return for a TD...
"Everyone did their own parts, picked up their own blocks and the hole opened up big for me."
"Whether it's the kicking game, offense, defense we all just feed of each other.
BGSU Defensive End Devon Parks on the team's eight QB sacks...
"We knew we could get after the quarterback."
Ball State Coach Brady Hoke
"We didn't do anything right. We didn't stop them on third down, they converted and we didn't do anything. We had a punt blocked, a punt snap over the punter's head, a kickoff returned for a touchdown...so we didn't do a damn thing right. When you're playing a good football team you can't do that."
On eight quarterback sacks allowed...
"Some of them we got to get rid of the football, we've got to throw the ball away. That's part of a young quarterback learning. Some of them we just got physically whipped at the point of attack. It's combination of both. One of them we've got max protection, so we didn't block well enough."
On team's preparation....
"We had a hell of a week of practice. They were good all the way on the trip here. I feel for those kids because they worked too damn hard, we've got to do a better job of coaching them."
On allowing 51 points defensively...
"It's frustrating for Mark (Smith) and the defensive staff because we've tried to do a lot of different things to help. We had times today where we had pressure on the quarterback, but he gets rid of it and it's a completion or it's a touchdown."
Ball State Linebacker Donta Smith
"Everybody's got to get to the place where they're supposed to be on the field. We just have to play team ball. I think we can play with the best of them. We just have to go out there and be mentally prepared."
Ball State Off. Lineman Nick Tabacca
"All week we knew they were going to stunt a lot and they did a lot of that. They definitely got to the quarterback way too much today."
