Philadelphia, Pa. -
BGSU Coach Gregg Brandon
On challenging the team this week...
The team responded to what I asked them to do. We needed to come back after a tough loss at NIU and that's just what we did, convincingly. Particularly the D-line. I challenged them to step up and stuff the run, and also get some pressure on their quarterbacks. And we did that today. And the offensive line, we needed to finish some drives. And that's encouraging to get the ball down in the redzone and we got touchdowns today, not field goals. I talked to my team about, we got a dose of humilty last week. I wanted to see how we responded when we lost a tough game. So it's very important that we came out humbled and poised, I guess, would be the two words that I asked our guys to do. Other than we had too many stupid penalties. That seems to be nagging at us right now. We need to do a better job at that.
Coach Studrawa did an excellent job of managing Omar in the first half. Then Coach Beckman did a great job of defensively putting our guys in position and we made some plays. That's what we talked about. It's encouraging and gives us some momentum going into MAC play at Central Michigan next week.
Early in that first quarter, with about seven, eight minutes to go, I think our guys showed hey, we're here to get after this.
It was good that we were able to sustain drives. We only had one turnover. Last year we were minus-six. So we really have stressed taking care of the football and we're on the plus side which is where we need to be right now after four games.
Def. Lineman Brad Williams
On rebounding from last week's loss at NIU...
Coach just talked all week about getting back to our brand of defense. We really hadn't done that yet this year and I think we showed that today a lot. We gave up a lot of yardage last week. It was important to come out today and know that we can do it.
On BGSU's offense...
They make it a lot of easier. When they're scoring you're getting hyped up and its helps with the motivation.
On Def. Coordinator Tim Beckman being on the sideline... He was a little bit more of a motivator, got us going, always in your face yelling. I really enjoyed that.
Quarterback Omar Jacobs
On getting a big victory...
It was very important. We just have to go back to our basics. Run, block, pass and catch, just the basics of football. Just go out protect, block, score points like we did last year.
When we're on the field and we're scoring touchdowns it gets our defense more excited. They get the ball back for us and then it's just a momentum factor once you're rolling along.
Running Back P.J. Pope
It all starts up front, so it's huge when the offensive line and the defensive line plays well because without them none of our plays would be successful. That's what we expect from them week in and week out.
Coach talked all week about getting that swagger back and I think each week we go in, no matter what the defense is running, we believe our plays should work. It's what we expect from ourselves.
On his four TDs.....
It's the first game I've scored this year so it feels good to get at least one on the board.
