Team Effort Lifts Falcons Past Wayne State, 7-0

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University tennis team used a total team effort to open the dual-match portion of the 2004-05 season on a successful note. The Falcons blanked visiting Wayne State University by a 7-0 final at Keefe Courts Thursday afternoon (Oct. 7).
All nine players on the BGSU roster saw action in the match, with every player posting at least one win.
The Brown and Orange got off to a good start in doubles play. The team of junior Andrea Meister and freshman Jenna Nussbaum gutted out a 9-7 win over the Warriors' duo of Natalya Natyshak and Amanda Pressotto. Sophomore Ashley Jakupcin teamed with freshman Andrea Volle for an 8-4 win at the second flight, while senior Laura Kokinda and sophomore Erica Wolfe lost only two total games en route to their third-flight win.

It was more of the same when singles play began, as the Falcons won at every flight to complete the sweep. Senior Susie Schoenberger picked up the straight-sets victory at the top flight, while Jakupcin lost only one game on the way to her second-flight sweep.
Volle, in the only match that required a third set, won a 12-10 thriller in a third-set 'super-tiebreaker' against Pressotto after the two players had split their first two sets.
Junior Heidi Romer, senior Cameron Benjamin and Meister all won at flights four through six, respectively, while Nussbaum and Wolfe swept their exhibition singles matches.
Head coach Penny Dean and the Falcons are now idle from competition for over a month, before closing the fall schedule with a trip to the Penn State Tournament on Nov. 12-13.
