COLUMBUS, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - Bowling Green State University redshirt junior Ali Shingler has been named to the Soccer Buzz National Elite Team of the Week, the online magazine has announced. Shingler earns the honor for the first time in her Falcon career.
Shingler's award marks the fifth week in the history of the Falcon women's soccer program, and the second this season, that a BGSU player has been named to a national weekly team. Senior Kristy Coppes was named to the Soccer Buzz on Sept. 1.
Shingler, a native of Grove City, Ohio, made 28 saves as the eighth-seeded Falcons went 3-0-0 to win the Mid-American Conference Tournament last week. She made 10 saves to set a career high in the Falcons' 2-1 double-overtime win at top-seeded Kent State in the quarterfinal round (Nov. 2), then had seven stops in BG's 4-1 win over Western Michigan in the semifinals three days later.
On Sunday (Nov. 7), Shingler set a new career high, with 11 saves, and posted her fifth shutout of the season as the Brown and Orange beat Central Michgian, 2-0, to win the first MAC Tournament title in school history.
Shingler and the Falcons are in Columbus, Ohio, preparing for the first NCAA Tournament match in program history. BGSU faces Ohio State Friday night (Nov. 12) at 7:00 p.m. at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
The Soccer Buzz National Elite Team of the Week is comprised of 11 players from around the country, chosen on the basis of their play the previous week. This week's team reads as follows...
