COLUMBUS, Ohio -
BGSU HEAD COACH Andy Richards
"Obviously, we're disappointed with the loss, but I couldn't be more proud of the girls. They put up a great performance, and I think they did Bowling Green State University proud tonight. We're disappointed with the loss, but I think we all realize that we lost to the better team tonight."
(On Ohio State's pressure)
"They're seeded sixth in the national tournament, so we knew it was going to be relentless. We knew that they have great players, great quality all over the field, and we did our best to match up against them. We defended very, very well in the first half, but in end, it just became too much for us. But, again, I'm very proud. They're the number-six seed, and if we can manage to play with them for over 55 minutes, then I give us great credit."
(On the offensive struggles)
"Losing Kristy Coppes created a big void for us. We had already lost Sam Meister a few games ago, in our final conference game (at Toledo on Oct. 28). When you begin to lose key players like that, it just begins to put extra stress on the entire team. Obviously, you need goals to win games, and they're two of our top scorers. Losing Sam was a blow to our offense, and then losing Kristy to a concussion (suffered late in the MAC Tournament championship-game win over CMU) ... it really hurt our offense."
BGSU GOALKEEPER Ali Shingler
(On OSU's attack)
"It felt like they were constantly coming at us, especially in the first half. Once we got the ball out (of the penalty area), it felt like they were winning it back right away, and bringing it right back at us. I thought our defense did a great job of shutting down some of their key players in the first half, and did a good job of staying on our feet. In the second half, we broke down a little bit, and gave up some goals, which was unfortunate, but I still thought our defense stayed strong against their great attackers."
(On the two OSU goals)
"(On the first goal), number six (Danielle Dietrich), once she got the ball with her back to the goal, she did a great job of turning. We were unable to stand her up, and she just slid it right past me. It was a well-placed shot that I wasn't quite ready for. On the second one, I made an individual mistake and went down (to the ground) when I should have stayed up. She (Lara Dickenmann) placed her shot well."
OHIO STATE COACH LORI WALKER
"We are excited that we get to continue in the NCAA tournament. Bowling
Green had an excellent end to their season and we respect them as a program. I think we started off a little slow, but I'm happy with the way our kids stepped up in the second half."
(On playing at home)
"Right now we are really clicking at home. We have a routine and we have
been successful with that routine."
(On the team's confidence)
"They have a lot of confidence, but we can not take anything for
granted."
OHIO STATE FORWARD DANIELLE DIETRICH
(On the win)
"I think we started out a little sluggish. Bowling Green's keeper played
very well. They are a good team."
OHIO STATE MIDFIELDER LARA DICKENMANN
(On her goal)
"I got the ball at the top of the 18-yard box, dribbled around the defender, saw an opening and put the ball in the corner (of the net)."
