Matsumoto Named CCHA Rookie of the Week for Second Time

Bowling Green, Ohio - Bowling Green freshman Jonathan Matsumoto was named Central Collegiate Hockey Association Rookie of the Week for the second time this season on Monday, November 15. The Orleans, Ontario native had the second three-point game of his short career on Nov. 13, leading BGSU to a 6-4 victory at Nebraska-Omaha.
Matsumoto scored his second game-winning goal of the season in the game and added another goal and assist in the win. He also had a goal in Friday's 4-2 loss to the Mavericks and finished with three power-play goals on the weekend. His three goals came on just five shots in the two games (.600 pct.). He leads the Falcons in total points (10), goals scored (6), and power-play goals (5).
The 5-foot-11, 204 pound forward is tied for third nationally for points-per-game by a rookie (1.25 pg.), having registered a point in six of BGSU's eight games this season. Matsumoto is also T-2nd CCHA/T-5th nationally with 0.62 PPGs-per-game, T-3rd CCHA/T-16th nationally with .75 goals-per-game, T-1st in CCHA with two GWGs, and 7th in CCHA with .286 shot pct. (6-of-21).
He was also named CCHA Rookie of the Week on October 25 after scoring a PPG and two assists in his career debut at Union College.
Matsumoto was ranked by InsideCollegeHockey.com as the 13th best incoming forward in Division I this preseason. The overall Falcon freshmen class was ranked 14th by INCH.com.
BGSU is 5-2-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the CCHA. The Falcons travel to Wayne State on Thursday, Nov. 18 (7:05 p.m.) then host WSU on Saturday, Nov. 20, at the BGSU Ice Arena. Face-off for Saturday's game is a special 5:05 p.m. start.
