The Bowling Green State University women's basketball team, after posting the highest offensive output in over a decade, concludes a season-opening three-game road swing Saturday (Nov. 27) ... the Falcons of fourth-year head coach Curt Miller head to Pittsburgh, Pa., to face Duquesne University ... tipoff for the game is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at the A.J. Palumbo Center (6,200).

In Bowling Green's win at IPFW, the Falcon offense provided a stiff test for the scoreboard operator ... BGSU racked up a total of 115 points, the team's highest scoring output in nearly 13 years ... the last time the Brown and Orange scored that many points was on Feb. 26, 1992, in a 115-68 win over Ball State ... the scoring total tied for the third-highest single-game output in school history, just 12 off the BGSU record.

FALCONS ON LOCAL RADIO FOR AT LEAST 26 GAMES
A total of 25 of the Falcons' 27 regular-season games, plus all postseason action, are scheduled to be on the air in 2004-05 ... student station WBGU-FM (88.1), the flagship station for the women's basketball Falcons, is scheduled to air all but two regular-season contests -- the games at the Lobo Shootout (Dec. 10-11) ... the 2004-05 academic year marks the third season of an agreement between the BGSU department of athletics and the Bowling Green Radio Sports Organization (BGRSO) to have WBGU serve as the flagship station for both hockey and women's basketball.
ABOUT THE FALCONS
The Falcons will take a 1-1 record into Saturday's (Nov. 27) game at Duquesne ... after suffering an 89-41 loss at nationally-ranked Ohio State (Nov. 12), BGSU rebounded for a 115-84 victory at IPFW a week later (Nov. 19) ... the OSU game was a first-round contest in the Sportsview.tv WNIT ... sophomores Megan Thorburn and Liz Honegger currently rank one-two on the team in scoring ... Thorburn, after scoring a career-high 26 points at IPFW, currently averages a team-high 17.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game ... Honegger had a career-best 27 points vs. the Mastodons, and now has 16.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game ... redshirt junior Casey McDowell is averaging 7.0 points, while sophomore Ali Mann and freshman Whitney Taylor have 6.5 ppg apiece ... Mann is averaging a BG-best 9.0 rebounds per outing ... senior Tene Lewis has a team-high 6.5 assists per contest ... Lewis and McDowell joined Honegger, Mann and Thorburn in the starting five at IPFW ... all 12 Falcons who have seen action this year are averaging at least 2.0 points and 5.0 minutes per game.
BGSU ended the 2003-04 season with a record of 21-10, and the Falcons finished the MAC campaign with an 11-5 slate ... BG tied for second in the West Division, then posted a pair of buzzer-beating wins in the league tourney to advance to the championship game ... head coach Curt Miller welcomes back 11 letterwinners, including three starters, from that team ... the returning starters, all sophomores, are Honegger, Mann and Thorburn ... Miller's team includes three seniors in Kelly Kapferer, Lewis and Sakima Smith ... a pair of juniors, Lause and McDowell, also return ... in addition to the three returning starters, the sophomore class consists of Amber Flynn, Julie Gompers and Carin Horne ... two freshmen, guards Kate Achter and Taylor, round out the Falcon squad.
SCOUTING DUQUESNE
Duquesne will enter the weekend with a record of 0-2 after a pair of road losses to start the season ... the Dukes of head coach Dan Durkin lost a 65-51 decision at East Carolina last weekend (Nov. 19) before falling at Penn State, 71-55, on Tuesday (Nov. 23) ... junior guard Aiga Bautre leads the team with 18.0 points per game, while classmate Nicole Sinclair, a forward, is averaging 11.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per outing ... Bautre had a game-high 20 points at PSU, while Sinclair had a double-double, with 17 points and 11 boards ... sophomore forward Loui Hall (7.0 ppg, 6.5 rpg), junior center Maria Stankevich (8.0 ppg, a team-high 8.5 rpg) and junior guard Erin Crawford (0.0 ppg, 1.0 rpg) round out the five players that have started each of the first two games for Durkin, who is 146-164 in his 12th year at the school ... last year, the Dukes went 16-13 overall, and finished third in the West Division of the Atlantic 10 Conference with a 10-6 league mark ... the school's athletics web site is www.GoDuquesne.com.
THE SERIES
The Falcons lead Duquesne, 2-0, in the all-time series between the teams ... in the initial meeting, BGSU picked up an 88-76 win at Anderson Arena (Dec. 2, 1995), despite a game-high 26 points from DU's Korie Hlede and 11 from current Duquesne assistant coach Trixie Wolf ... the next year (Dec. 11, 1996), Hlede -- a first-round pick in the WNBA draft who went on to play five seasons in that league -- scored 21 points, but the Falcons picked up a 74-66 victory at the Palumbo Center ... that win was the 100th career victory for then-BGSU head coach Jaci Clark.
BGSU/DUQUESNE TIES
Saturday's game marks the second consecutive contest in which a former Falcon guard is on the opposing team's bench ... Marisa Smith is sitting out this season as a redshirt for the Dukes, after transferring from BGSU over the summer ... Smith averaged 3.3 points per game as a freshman at BG in 2002-03, and had 0.8 ppg in 10 contests for the Brown and Orange last winter ... (former BG guard Molly Martin is now at IPFW, and played 13 scoreless minutes vs. the Falcons).
BGSU/DUQUESNE TIES II
Duquesne assistant coach Trixie Wolf is a native of Jefferson, Ohio, the same hometown as Falcon fifth-year senior Kelly Kapferer ... in 1999-2000, Kapferer pulled down 417 rebounds for Jefferson Area High School, breaking Wolf's school single-season record ... Wolf had grabbed 410 boards in the 1990-91 season.
LAST TIME OUT
The Falcons broke open a tie game with a 22-0 run midway through the first half, and BGSU went on to a 115-84 win at IPFW last Friday (Nov. 19) ... sophomores Liz Honegger and Megan Thorburn each erupted for career scoring highs, combining for 53 points ... Honegger had a game-high 27 points, while Thorburn was right behind with 26 ... BGSU scored 55 points in the first half and 60 in the second, shooting over 50 percent from the field in each half ... the Brown and Orange held the host Mastodons to just a 22.0 percent shooting rate in the first 20 minutes and a 30.0% performance for the game ... BG's big run came with the game tied at 15-15 ... after that 22-0 run, the 'Dons could not get any closer than 14 points ... BG took a 55-32 lead into the half, then began the second stanza on a 13-2 run to double up on the hosts, 68-34 ... the Falcon lead never slipped under 20 points the rest of the night.
YOUR BASIC 79-POINT TURNAROUND
After suffering a 48-point loss at nationally-ranked Ohio State to open the season, the Falcons rebounded for a 31-point victory at IPFW one week later ... the 89-41 loss to the Buckeyes was the sixth-most lopsided setback in BGSU history, in terms of margin ... the win over the Mastodons tied for the 36th-highest margin of victory in school history ... to put those rankings in perspective, the Falcons have played a total of 808 games since becoming a varsity program.

THE LAST TIME...
BGSU, as mentioned, scored the most points in a game in nearly 13 years in the IPFW contest ... the Falcons put up some other numbers that hadn't been seen in quite some time ...
LEWIS DISHES 'EM OUT
Senior co-captain Tene Lewis shattered her career high for assists, dishing out 10 in the IPFW game ... her previous best had been six assists, reached on two occasions.
BOARDWORK
Sophomore Ali Mann pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds in the win at IPFW ... the double-digit rebounding game was the eighth of Mann's young career ... she is tied with classmate Liz Honegger for the most among active Falcons.
BOARDWORK II
Senior Sakima Smith and junior Jill Lause combined for nine rebounds in the IPFW game ... all five of Smith's rebounds came in the first half, including three within a 33-second span shortly after checking into the game for the first time ... Lause had all four of her boards within a first-half span of 1:31 ... Lause's first three rebounds came within a 28-second stretch.
FLYNN IS FOUR-FOR-FOUR FROM FIELD
Sophomore Amber Flynn was the lone Falcon held scoreless in the first half, as she played three minutes and did not attempt a shot ... but, in the second half, Flynn scored a career-high nine points on 4-of-4 shooting from the floor ... Flynn is two-thirds of the way to her field-goal total for all of last season, having made six shots in 18 attempts as a freshman ... she is nearly halfway to her points total (20) from last winter.
START ME UP
Redshirt junior Casey McDowell made the first start of her BGSU career in the IPFW game ... McDowell made a total of 20 starts as a true freshman at Indiana State in the 2001-02 season ... she sat out the 2002-03 campaign after transferring to BG, then came off the bench to play in 29 games last year.
BGSU-OHIO GAME PART OF MAC TV PACKAGE
The Falcons' home game vs. Ohio University, scheduled for Feb. 5, 2005, will be televised as part of the league's seven-game package on Fox Sports Net Ohio ... start time for the game has been moved to 2:00 p.m. ... this is a change from the previously published start time listed in the media guide and on schedule cards, posters and season ticket information ... Comcast Local will also air the game, with additional clearances possibly being announced at a later date.
START TIME CHANGED FOR WMU GAME
The starting time for the Falcons' game on Jan. 22, 2005, has been changed ... that game, vs. Western Michigan, has been moved to a 3:00 p.m. start at Anderson Arena ... the move sets up a Falcon basketball doubleheader that day ... the BGSU men's basketball team will host Toledo in a 6:00 p.m. game that is part of the MAC's television package for 2004-05.
