PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Postgame quotes from Bowling Green State University head coach Curt Miller after the Falcons' 68-63 loss at Duquesne University Saturday evening (Nov. 27):
"The name of the game tonight was tempo. We felt like we needed to get the game into the 70's, as Duquesne has played a couple of games where they have slowed down the tempo and really controlled the play. Their post players are too big and too talented for us to get caught in a 40-minute halfcourt game."
"Both teams have graduated two of their top players, including each point guard. So, I think you saw two teams trying to find their new identity without those star players. The season is young, and the game was ugly at times tonight, as both teams try to feel out their systems. But, I was disappointed with the way we shot the ball. We had possessions as well as foul shots with chances to tie or take the lead, and we just could not get over the hump. That was a big factor. I think if we could have gotten even or taken the lead, we would have gained a lot of momentum. But, we just never get even."
"Ali Mann took the team on her shoulders at one point, and tried to have the `refuse to lose' attitude. I saw a lot of leadership potential from Ali. She is going to be a real leader on the floor for us, and the team really looks to her. She wanted the ball in crucial situations, and I think that bodes well for the future. But, we are a team without an identity, and a team that could struggle after losing a combined 2,100 points (after the graduation of last year's seniors, Lindsay Austin and Stefanie Wenzel). We have a long way to go to try to replace Lindsay and Stefanie, and we need to find that new identity soon."
