Bowling Green, Ohio -
BGSU Coach Gregg Brandon
"We were really on all eight cylinders today, in the first half it was evident. Omar was sharp. Our protection has just been outstanding, our receivers are getting open and he's putting the ball on the money."
"We mixed in some good runs today. And we really got after Western in the first half of that football game, both sides of the ball."
"The plan was to press the pocket, put some pressure on twelve. We needed to cover fifteen and we did a good job of that."
"The punt that (Mitch) Crossley blocked we were in safe punt. The guy just let him go and he went in there and just blocked it."
"That was a great job by our offense. We got the ball in a hole a couple times there in the first half and we drove it out. That's credit to the offense."
"Defensively some three and outs, we just kept them at bay. They were never really able to get in sync. Our defense was never threatened,"
"I think it was our first shutout in three years. It was a great defensive effort."
"P.J. ran hard, B.J. Lane did too. They both honked it up in there. I thought they did a good job."
"Our offensive line is really playing well right now. They dominated that front, and we ran the ball up in there well."
Defensive Back Keon Newson
On stopping the pass...
"We knew coming into this week that they had a good receiving corps. We
focused a lot of our defensive strategy on stopping the pass, which was a key goal for us in this game. Eastern Michigan came in last week and they did a pretty good job passing the ball on the secondary and we didn't want to have another game like that."
On heading into the last two games with Marshall and Toledo... "I feel very comfortable going into these last couple of games. The offense is peaking and there ís no better time to peak than November when it comes down to crunch time when you have to win those crucial games."
Quarterback Omar Jacobs...
"We go into every game with a game plan. We knew that Western had great
talent but they weren't putting it together as teamwork a lot of the time. So we just came out and came at them at the jump."
On playing only the first half of the game...
"I can't remember when I played a whole game. It's nice to go out and execute every play and go down the field on a drive and put up points. It gives us time to rest."
On his play today...
"I give it a B. I threw exceptionally well this game with three incompletions. Our receivers made some big catches. Certain times we went 98-99 yards. We're executing right now. We're at our peak. We go into every week with that same mind frame."
On the running game...
"PJ (Pope) is doing great right now just running the ball and running hard. We got great backs with PJ and BJ (Lane) and they know if they back off they know we're going to run in straight down their throats."
Running Back P.J. Pope
"Every week we go in with a balanced game plan to see what will work and
what won't work. I think sometimes we're more successful passing or passing is what they're giving us. Every week I go in expecting to get carries and depending on what the defense is doing we do what works for us."
On his 88 yard touchdown...
"O-line did a great job first of all. Somebody got a hand on my feet and tripped me up a little bit. I know I was right behind Kory Lichtensteiger who pulled around on the play, him and Andy Grub. There was a hole there and I just ran as fast as I could."
Western Michigan Coach Gary Darnell
Opening Statement...
"I want to really congratulate Gregg Brandon, his staff, his football team, because they were absolute class-act today. Anyone that was there, anyone that saw it on TV knows that they could have named the score today. That was huge on Gregg's part."
On not able to stop BGSU offense...
"It's third and 14, the very first series, we back them up and all that sort of thing and they converted. And then from that point on we could just not play their people bad enough. We were just not there coverage wise. The last touchdown in the first half was about as poorly done...that's what I'm saying. Bowling Green wasn't even trying to score."
On lack of offensive production...
"The fact that we didn't get the ball in a couple times early was kind of surprising to me, but we didn't. And usually those are the kind of things that starts bouncing back and forth and that's what's got to happen to our football team right now."
On talking to FSN Ohio sideline reporter Sharon Thorsland at halftime...
"I said, `Sharon, you're not supposed to say stuff like this on TV, but this game's over. We're 49 points down. We've got to move on."
On his days at Kansas State...
"If this would have been at Kalamazoo this would have been a whole lot worse that what it is because you didn't have a choice because you only get take so many guys. And that's exactly what happened in the old days. When Oklahoma and Nebraska came in they could only travel 60 and when they came to your place they couldn't take them out. That would have been the case today."
On BGSU...
"They're pretty good. They're passing game keeps it spread out. All I could talk about last year was Cole Magner. This year I don't know which guy to start with first. Their receivers are special. And then Omar (Jacobs) and the offensive line. The package is there really good. Probably the only way to beat them is to keep the ball away from them. If they get the ball they're going to put some hurt on you."
