Newson And Pope Named MAC Player Of The Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Senior Keon Newson and junior P.J. Pope were honored this week by the Mid-American Conference. Newson was award MAC West Division Defensive Player of the Week, while Pope captured co-Offensive Player of the Week.

Pope had a career-high 205 yards (12 carries) and three TDs rushing as BGSU pounded WMU, 52-0. Pope set a school record by rushing for 202 yards in the first half on 10 carries and had TD scores of 7, 41 and 88 yards. He also caught 1 pass for 9 yards. Pope leads all MAC running backs this year in yards per carry (7.0), receptions (36) and receiving yards (352). He also has 732 yards and 10 TDs rushing this year.
Defense - Keon Newson, Bowling Green defensive back

Newson had six tackles (4 solo) and a career-high two interceptions in the red zone as BGSU posted its first shutout since the 2001 season. He also added two QB hurries and a pass deflection in a 52-0 win over Western Michigan.
The Falcons resume action Saturday afternoon, when they play host to Marshall on Nov. 13 at noon.
