Falcons Face Western Michigan On Sunday

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University gymnastics team travels to Kalamazoo, Michigan, on Sunday afternoon for a 1:00 p.m. showdown with the Western Michigan Broncos inside University Arena. The Falcons will look to improve to 3-0 in MAC action since the 2001-02 season.
BGSU is coming off a first-place finish at the Cardinal Classic, hosted by Ball State, last Friday night with a team score of 193.475. They defeated Ball State (193.425) and Illinois (192.975). The Brown and Orange then hosted the All-Ohio Championships two days later on Sunday afternoon inside Anderson Arena. With a team score of 193.725, BGSU fell to Ohio State, 195.450, and Kent State, 195.375.
A Look At The Broncos
Western Michigan (0-9, 0-2) placed fifth in the Michigan Classic last weekend. The team score of 193.375 in the meet was WMU's top performance of the season.
Falcons In The MAC
Senior co-captain Melissa Popovich ranks in the top 10 in all four categories, as well as first in the all-around. Her top score of 9.875 on vault ranks in a tie for first. Her other marks of 9.900 on bars ranks second, 9.850 on beam is tied for seventh and with a 9.950 on floor she sits atop that category as well. She also owns the top all-around score in the MAC with a 39.425.
Popovich is not the only Falcon in the top 10. Senior Pia Sjovall is fifth on the floor with a 9.925, as well as tied for fifth on vault with a 9.825.
On bars junior Kari Elste sits in a tie for fourth with a 9.875, while Marie-Eve Boisvert's 9.850 ranks ninth.
