Falcons Host Northern Illinois On Sunday

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University gymnastics team welcomes Northern Illinois to the Eppler Center on Sunday, Feb. 29, in a Mid-American Conference showdown. NIU currently stands at 4-5 overall and 2-3 in conference action, while BGSU is 4-6 overall and 2-2 in the MAC. The meet is set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
LAST WEEKEND AT KENT STATE
The Bowling Green State University gymnastics squad, with a score of 194.975, fell to both No. 19 Kent State (196.350) and George Washington (195.400) last Friday night inside the M.A.C. Center. BGSU's Melissa Popovich (39.500) and Kristin DiPietro (38.975) placed first and fifth in the all-around, respectively.
A LOOK AT THE HUSKIES
Northern Illinois finished second in its own quadrangular last Sunday (Feb. 22), posting a 194.150 team total only to see MAC rival Central Michigan register a 194.425 tally. Senior Dannielle Dacey (Saskatoon, Sask. /Marian M. Graham) won the uneven bars crown with a 9.800 performance as the individual highlight for NIU, while the Huskies compiled a season-high 48.800 team score on the vault. That wasn't enough, however, as CMU scored a 49.000 on balance beam plus a 49.175 on the floor exercise.
FALCONS IN THE MAC
Senior Melissa Popovich ranks in the top 10 in all five categories in the Mid-American Conference. She ranks second in the all-around (39.500), vault (9.900) and bars (9.900). She also ranks seventh on beam (9.925) and third on the floor (9.950). Senior co-captain Pia Sjovall joins Popovich on the top 10 list on beam (9.900) and floor (9.925) where she ranks tenth and sixth, respectively. Junior Kari Elste ranks fifth on the bars with a 9.875,
SCHEDULE REMINDER
The Falcons will be right back here next Sunday afternoon, March 7, when they will close out the MAC regular season with a dual meet versus Central Michigan. The meet is set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
