CLEVELAND - DeAndre Haynes scored a career-high 26 points, Jason Edwin added 22 and Kent State pulled away in the second half Thursday for a 79-66 win over Bowling Green in the Mid-American Conference tournament quarterfinals.
Haynes, a speedy sophomore guard, sparked a 13-0 run after halftime that propelled Kent State (21-7) into the semifinals for the fifth time in six years.
John Edwards added 11 points for the Golden Flashes, who made 12 of their first 15 shots in the second half and went 16-of-22 (73 percent) from the floor after the half.
Kent State, which snapped a four-game losing streak, will play the winner of the second afternoon quarterfinal between No. 3 seed Miami of Ohio and No. 6 seed Ball State in Friday's semis.
In the evening session, No. 1 seed Western Michigan plays No. 8 Marshall and No. 4 seed Toledo plays No. 5 Buffalo.
John Reimold scored 16 points and Ron Lewis 14 to lead Bowling Green (14-17), which led 41-39 lead with 17 minutes left.
But Haynes scored a layup, the 7-foot Edwards dropped a short jumper and Edwin buried a 3-pointer to ignite Kent State's decisive spurt.
The Falcons didn't go away completely and crawled within 65-56 on Lewis' basket with 4:38 to go. However, Haynes, whose previous career-high was 21 against Bowling Green earlier this season, knocked down a 3-pointer and the Golden Flashes completed a three-game sweep of BGSU this season.
