Falcons Travel To CMU For MAC Championships

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - After finishing the regular season with a 3-3 Mid American Conference record and 5-8 overall record, the BGSU Gymnastics team travels to Mount Pleasant, Mich. on Friday night to compete in the MAC Championships hosted by CMU inside Rose Arena. The meet is set to begin at 6:00 p.m.
BGSU finished the regular season with sole possession of third place, as well as owning the third-best MAC team score of 195.900. Only Kent State (197.050) and Central Michigan (196.225) have posted better team scores.
FALCON PREVIEW
Vault
The four-time MAC Gymnast of the Week Melissa Popovich ranks second in the MAC on the vault with a 9.9, which she has posted twice this season.
Bars
Kari Elste and Popovich will be looking to claim the uneven bars crown. Popovich ranks fifth in the MAC with a 9.9, while Elste is directly behind her with a 9.875.
Beam
Popovich once again will lead BGSU on the balance beam, but will be join by senior co-captain Pia Sjovall. Popovich ranks eighth in the MAC with a career-high 9.925 and Sjovall sits in tenth with a 9.9.
Floor
The captains Popovich and Sjovall have both registered career-high's of 9.950 this season, ranking fifth in the MAC.
All-Around
Coming off a career-high 39.525 versus Central Michigan two weeks ago, Popovich could easily capture the MAC all-around championship. Her 39.525 ranks third in the MAC.
