Falcons Play Regular-Season Finale
Bowling Green takes to the road for its 2003-04 regular-season finale when it plays host Western Michigan this Thursday, March 4, at the Lawson Arena. Faceoff is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. WMU sits in seventh place in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association standings while BGSU is ninth.
If the Season Ended Today...
The CCHA Tournament begins with all 12 teams seeded based on the final regular-season standings. The top-six seeds will host a first-round, best-of-three series on campus sites (March 12-14). The winners of the six first-round series will then advance to Joe Louis Arena for the CCHA Super Six Championship where they will be reseeded based upon their regular-season finish (March 18-20). Right now the 9th-seeded Falcons would be travelling in-state to Columbus to face the 4th-seeded Ohio State Buckeyes.
BGSU at Western Michigan
BGSU leads the all-time series vs. the Broncos, 66-45-4. However, the Falcons are 0-7-1 in the last eight meetings with six of those games being decided by two goals or less and four going to overtime, including a 4-3 OT loss on Nov. 25 this season. The last Falcon victory against the Broncos was over three years ago (Feb. 23, 2001/4-2).
Playing the Odds with Power-Play Goals
The Falcons improved to 10-4-4 when scoring a power play goal in a 2-1 victory over NMU on Friday. The next night, BGSU fell to 0-12-5 when they do not tally a PPG.
Moving In on 100-Point Plateau
SR D'Arcy McConvey's goal on Friday brought him to within one point of the 100-point plateau for his career. He now has 30-69--99 in 150 career games. The last Falcon to record 100 career points was Greg Day from 1998-2002 (60-74--134) in 154 games.
"Siggy" Over 1,000, Leads Nation
JR Jordan Sigalet became just the fourth Falcon to record over 1,000 saves in a season and now has 1,063 stops in 35 games (30.4 pg.). He leads the nation in saves and is just 24 saves away from the BGSU single-season record of 1,087 saves set by Tyler Masters in 2000-01.
Sigalet Named Defensive POW for Third Time
JR Jordan Sigalet was named the CCHA Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season after recording 42 saves in a 2-1 win over NMU on Friday. He then appeared in his 11th overtime game this season and shutout his opponent for the 10th time in the extra session with a 2-2 tie on Saturday. He finished with 66 saves on 69 shots faced (.957 save pct.) and a 1.44 gaa. in 125:00 minutes of work against the Wildcats for the weekend. Sigalet also held NMU to 0-for-6 on power play attempts in the two games.
