BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Bowling Green State University volleyball head coach Denise Van De Walle has announced the signing of one student-athlete to a National Letter of Intent. Elizabeth Simon will join the Falcons for the 2003-04 academic year.
"I am thrilled to have Elizabeth join our team," said Van De Walle. "I've known her and her family for many years. She's been a Falcon Volleyball fan since she was young. Elizabeth will play libero for us next fall. With the new rule that the libero can serve, we'll be able to take full advantage of her jump serve."
Simon, a native of Bowling Green, Ohio, currently attends Bowling Green High School. With coach Kelli Nitschke's help, Simon was named first-team all-league along with Honorable Mention all-district.
In 2002 Simon was a member of the USA Junior Olympics in Louisville, where she was named MVP. She also was second-team all-league and all-district, as well as team MVP.
Simon currently is playing club ball with the Premier Volleyball Club in Perrysburg, Ohio.
"Elizabeth has a tremendous work ethic and her drive to excel both on the court and in the classroom will match what we do here," said Van De Walle. "BG is the perfect fit for Elizabeth. It will be great to have a BGHS player in our program."
