BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The NCAA Division I Softball Committee has selected the 64 teams that will compete in the championship, and Bowling Green State University has earned the automatic bid from the Mid-American Conference. The Falcons will travel to Ann Arbor, Mich., to compete in Region No. 6, and BGSU's first opponent will be Oregon State University. The Falcons and Beavers will play in the first game of the eight-team, double-elimination regional on Thursday (May 20) at 10:00 a.m.
The University of Michigan, the sixth seed nationally, is the top-seeded team and host of the regional, which will be held at Alumni Field from Thursday through Sunday (May 20-23). The host Wolverines enter the tournament with an overall record of 50-10. The rest of the field, in order of seeding, includes Tennessee (53-14), OSU (40-26), Notre Dame (48-18), DePaul (29-29-1), BGSU (34-28), Illinois-Chicago (38-21) and Canisius (23-28).
The Falcons of head coach Leigh Ross-Shaw are participating in the NCAA Regionals for the fourth time in school history, and the first time in 11 years. BGSU made regional appearances in 1982, 1988 and 1993.
This year's BGSU team earned the right to advance to the NCAA Regionals by winning the MAC Tournament in Akron, Ohio. The Falcons, seeded sixth for that six-team tourney, lost the opening game, then reeled off five consecutive wins to capture the title. BGSU eliminated each of the top-four seeds en route to the first MAC Tournament championship in school history.
The regional commences with five games on Thursday, and runs through Sunday (May 23). The complete bracket, plus some additional NCAA selection information, follows. More information will be posted on BGSUFalcons.com as it becomes available.

The NCAA Division I Softball Committee selected teams from the following eight regions to participate in the championship: Central, East, Northeast, South, Mideast, Midwest, West and Pacific. Twenty-seven conferences were granted automatic qualification for the 2004 championship.
The top eight teams were seeded in order. The remainder of the teams were placed in regional brackets to create balanced competition and avoid conference match ups when possible. Teams hosting regionals, which were named two weeks prior to team selections, were not guaranteed a bid to the championship.
