BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University Athletics Hall of Fame will welcome seven new members on Sept. 10, BGSU Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Paul Krebs has announced. The 2004 class will be inducted during a formal dinner on the BGSU campus.
The class of 2004 will include women's basketball standout Lori Albers, men's track/cross country great Todd Black, gymnast Mary Beth Friel, volleyball standout Lisa Mika, swimmer Josie McCulloch, men's lacrosse player Chuck Winters and football Falcon Andre Young.
The official induction ceremony will take place Friday, Sept. 10, in the grand ballroom of BGSU's Bowen-Thompson Student Union, with Larry Weiss serving as Master of Ceremonies. The social hour begins at 6:00 p.m. with dinner served at 7:00 p.m. and the program starting shortly thereafter.
In addition, the class will be introduced at halftime of the Sept. 11 BGSU-Southeast Missouri football game at Doyt Perry Stadium. The game begins at 6:00 p.m. and is designated as Varsity BG & Hall of Fame Night.
Tickets for the Sept. 10 dinner are $35 and advance reservations are required. Tickets can be reserved by calling the Falcon Club office at (419) 372-7063. Brief biographical sketches on each of the seven inductees follow:
LORI ALBERS (women's basketball; 1990-94)
Native of Osgood, Ohio ... earned MAC Freshman-of-the-Year honors as BGSU won the MAC Tournament and advanced to the NCAAs in her freshman year of 1990 ... also named to the MAC's All-Freshman Team this year, ranking ninth in the league in steals and 10th in rebounding ... missed the entire 1990-91 season after undergoing reconstructive knee surgery in August ... came back to earn All-MAC Honorable Mention in 1991-92, ranking 12th in the MAC in scoring and fourth in field-goal pct. ... the following season, earned All-MAC First-Team honors and was named the MAC Tournament's MVP as BGSU won the league regular-season and tournament titles ... ranked fourth in the MAC in scoring and seventh in rebounding, and was also in the top-10 in FG pct., steals and blocked shots ... had 34 points and 15 rebounds in the MAC tourney title-game win over Kent ... had 23 points in the Falcons' NCAA game vs. Florida, before fracturing her wrist with eight minutes left in the game ... earned all-league second-team honors as a senior in 1993-94, and was named to the MAC's All-Tournament squad for the second-straight year ... BGSU again won MAC regular-season and tourney titles ... missed seven games early in the season after re-injuring her knee in practice just after the season opener ... her return to the lineup on Jan. 8 coincided with the Falcons' 20-game winning streak which ended in the NCAA Tournament ... was 12th in the league in scoring and ranked among the MAC's top-10 in rebounding, FG pct., FT pct., assists and steals ... in the four years she was healthy, BGSU was a combined 97-23 overall and 60-8 in the MAC ... finished her career with totals of 1424 points, 776 rebounds, 249 assists and a school-record 241 steals ... steals record stood until March of 2004 (broken by Lindsay Austin) ... she ended her BG career ranked third in scoring, fifth in rebounding and third in career FG pct., and was in the top-10 on a total of 10 BGSU career lists.

Native of Kenton, Ohio ... finished second in the 800 meters at the 1990 MAC meet with a time of 1:50.21 ... had the fastest times on the team in the 800 and the 1,500 meters in that year's outdoor season, while owning the team's best indoor times in the 800, 1500 and the mile ... led the team in points scored in 1991 ... finished second again in the 800 at the 1991 MAC meet, and was a provisional NCAA qualifer with a best of 1:48.16 that year ... sat out the 1991-92 season, but made it to the semifinal round of the 800 at the 1992 Olympic Trials in New Orleans ... misssed making the finals by just .31 ... had the 13th-best time in the nation entering the trials, with a time of 1:47.24 ... in the summer of 1992, competed with the U.S. Olympic Development team in Europe ... an All-American in 1993, when he was an automatic qualifier to the NCAA meet in the 800 ... finished eighth in that event (1:48.86) at the NCAA meet ... also that year, won the 1,500 meters at the MAC Championships ... that marked the first BGSU MAC title in a running event in 12 years ... finished second in the 800 at the MAC meet that year, for the third time in his career ... all-MAC in cross country in both 1990 and 1991 ... was BG's outstanding freshman in cross country in 1989 ... finished ninth at the MAC meet in 1990, and also earned All-Ohio honors that year ... was 12th at the MAC race and 24th at the district meet in 1991, earning All-MAC, All-Ohio and All-Central Collegiate honors that year ... was the Falcons' co-Most Improved Runner ... in 1996, competed at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Atlanta in the 800 meters, and advanced to the finals ... in the first round, finished second in his heat (1:47.71), then finished second in his heat in the second round (1:47.46) to advance to the semifinals ... had his best-ever time in the semifinals, with a 1:46.16 effort, to advance to the final ... ran a 1:46.99 in the finals, finishing eighth of eight ... spent several seasons as the restricted earnings coach for BG's cross country and track teams.

Native of Hoffman Estates, Ill. ... earned All-MAC honors in three of her four seasons, winning the MAC title on the balance beam as a junior in 1991 ... also earned all-league honors on the beam as a freshman and a senior ... was the first BG gymnast to earn all-conference honors in three different seasons (Marny Oestreng is the only other Falcon gymnast to do so) ... one of only five gymnasts to earn all-league honors at least three times ... at the time of her graduation, held school records in the all-around, balance beam, and floor exercise.

Native of Aylmer, Ontario ... became the first MAC female swimmer to individually qualify for the NCAAs in all four years and earn All-America honors in three seasons ... a MAC individual champion in all four years ... NCAA All-American in the 100 breaststroke (1991 and 1993) and 200 breaststroke (1994) ... MAC Champion in the 200 breaststroke in all four years (1991-94), while winning the MAC crown in the 100 breast three times (1991-93) ... in her freshman year, won both the 100 and 200 breast in the MAC meet, breaking school and conference records in both, as the Falcons finished second in the MAC as a team ... qualified for the NCAA meet that year, and was a part of school record-seting 200 medley and 400 medley relay teams ... earned honorable-mention All-America status in the 100 breast ... as a sophomore, was named the MAC's co-Swimmer of the Year after capturing two more MAC championships, in the 100 and 200 breast ... was part of a pair of NCAA-qualifying relay teams (200 medley and 400 medley) that year ... as a junior in 1993, again won the MAC in the 100 breast and 200 breast, as the Falcons finished second as a team ... was an honorable-mention All-American in the 100 breast ... her senior year, was the MAC champion in the 200 breast, while finishing second in the 100 breast ... again headed to the NCAAs, and earned honorable mention A-A honors in the 200 breast ... still holds the school records in the 100 breast and 200 breast.

Native of Flossmoor, Ill. ... a four-time All-MAC and two-time all-region selection ... led the MAC with a .375 hitting percentage as a freshman ... also led the league in service aces per game that year, setting the school single-match record with 10 vs. Sheridan ... earned All-MAC honorable mention and was the runner-up for league Freshman-of-the-Year ... as a sophomore in 1989, was a First-Team All-MAC pick ... she was second on the team with 365 kills that year, and led the team with 127 blocks ... she was fourth in the MAC in blocks per game and eighth in hitting pct. ... that '89 BGSU team captured the MAC regular-season title, ending Western Michigan's NCAA-record, 98-match league winning streak in the process ... as a junior in 1990, was a second-team all-league pick ... was named to the All-Mideast Region team as well that year, after setting school seasonal records with 419 digs and 206 blocks ... as a senior in 1991, was named to the All-MAC First Team for the second time in her career ... helped the 1991 squad capture both the MAC's regular-season and tournament titles and make the school's first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance ... that squad was ranked 19th in the nation in the final NCAA poll ... again was named to the all-region squad ... finished her BG tenure as the school's career leader in solo blocks (156) and total blocks (569).

Native of Rochester, N.Y. ... lettered for three years in lacrosse after originally coming to BG to play football ... had eight goals his junior year, sixth on the team, and 17 as a senior, tied for third on the Falcons ... earned honorable mention All-American honors as a senior as the Falcons went 11-1 ... played in the North-South game after his senior season ... was second team All-Midwest as a sophomore and junior, and first team as a senior ... co-captain his senior season ... was a graduate assistant coach at BG in 1970 before spending two seasons as an assistant coach at SUNY Cortland ... then took over as head coach at SUNY Cortland for nine years, winning the 1973 and 1975 Div. II national titles ... became the associate athletic director at Army for seven years before becoming the athletic director at Gettysburg College for 13 years ... served as the secretary-rules editor of the NCAA Men's Lacrosse Rules Committee ... was inducted into the Ohio Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2000.

Native of Akron, Ohio ... four-year letterwinner ... after sitting out the 1978 season with a knee injury, was a linebacker in 1979 and 1980 ... moved to defensive tackle as a junior and was among the MAC leaders in tackles for loss with 15 ... named to the All-MAC First Team as a senior, leading BG to a 7-2 conference mark and a berth in the 1982 California Bowl ... led the MAC as a senior with 26 tackles for losses totalling 127 yards ... earned MAC Defensive Player of the Week honors for BG's 7-3 win over Western Michigan that year ... in that game, had 13 tackles, including two fourth-quarter sacks ... selected first team Kodak Division I-AA All-America in 1982 (MAC was I-AA in 1982) as well as team Most Valuable Player ... drafted in the 12th round by the Cincinnati Bengals of the NFL ... also played in the USFL (Denver), CFL (Calgary) and with Green Bay in the NFL.
The 2004 class of inductees, the 41st class in history, brings membership in the Athletic Hall of Fame to 184. The 1983-84 national championship hockey team is also in the Hall of Fame.
