Bowling Green, Ohio - Bowling Green State University men's basketball coach Dan Dakich has announced that Mawel Soler (pronounced like Maui), a 6-feet-6 forward from Coffeyville (Kan.) Community College is currently enrolled in classes at Bowling Green and will play basketball for the Falcons next season.
"He's really tough. He defends and has good size. He's about 6-6, probably 210 pounds and solidly built," Dakich . "I just made up my mind after the season was over I was going to find, I didn't care where or how, a really tough guy to come in here and play. He's a mature kid and has a lot of personality."
A native of New Jersey, Soler averaged 9.1 points, 4.7 rebounds, two assists and one steal per game for Coffeyville, which finished 31-7 last year. He shot 57 percent from the field and 75 percent from the foul line to help the Red Ravens place fifth at the NJCAA national tournament. In the fifth-place game Soler scored 19 points, going 6-of-6 from the field and 6-of-7 from the free-throw line.
