In an effort to develop a consistent family of wordmarks, introduce and secondary supporting images, the Bowling Green State University athletic department will introduce a new graphic identity program, effective immediately. Rickabaugh Graphics, a national leader in their industry, of Gahanna, Ohio was chosen to lead the design process. This process also helps the department adopt stricter graphic standards creating a consistent image that represents the entire program.
"The mission of the athletics graphic identity committee was to recommend a single font and multiple secondary marks that would easily identify the Bowling Green State University athletic program and its teams, while retaining the existing Falcon Head and school colors of orange and brown as primary components of the identity," said BGSU Athletic Director Paul Krebs. "We are very satisfied with the outcome and hope that these new marks will help promote the identity of BGSU and our athletic program to a wider audience. The focus groups that included a number of individuals and groups who are involved with our program only reinforced our thoughts in choosing this new look."
The new identity will be phased in on uniforms, facilities, and stationery as those are needed to be replaced and will not require any new financial resources.

Colors
The uniqueness of the orange and brown color scheme is important to those close to BGSU. Some tan is used in the new wordmarks and retail logo to add accent to the designs.
The Wordmarks
Rickabaugh Graphics created two new fonts for the department, Falcon and Falcon Italic.
The Falcon Head
The BGSU Falcon Head design is popular and distinctive to those with an attachment to the University. It first appeared on a football helmet in 1970 and was originally intended to be used only by intercollegiate athletics and alumni. However, the mark is used across campus in a variety of applications and colors and will continue to be available for use by all non-academic campus groups.
A revised Falcon Head, with a distinctive outline of a traditional Falcon shape, will now be available solely for use by BGSU's athletic programs on all uniforms and coaching game-day apparel and event facilities. It's design allows for greater two-color representation's which should enhance the school's proud orange and brown combination. This logo may only appear in orange, brown and/or white, and in some one-color applications, black.

A retail Falcon Head, whose shape closely resembles that of the traditional Falcon Head mark, has been developed as a secondary logo and will be available to licensed vendors. In addition, the retail mark may appear on non-game day team apparel and assorted promotional items produced by the athletic department. Likewise, the color usage of this logo will be strictly enforced.

Other secondary monograms include the words "Falcons", "BG" and "BGSU" have been developed in the new font.
Licensing
BGSU athletics has overseen the licensed use of all University marks since 2001. Because of stricter enforcement and increased success on the field, revenue for the University has increased 245 percent over the past four years.
