Bowling Green State University football coach Gregg Brandon shared some of his training camps thoughts after morning practice on Wednesday, August 18. The Falcons will hold a public scrimmage on Sunday, August 22 at 7 p.m. Q: It seems as though there is a good pace and organization to camp this year, how do you get that done.? GB: "It's organized chaos is what it is. We have every minute of the day planned from the time we get up at 6 in the morning to the time we bed check at 10:30 p.m. That's something we do as a staff over the summer and plan everything. All of the things that go with running a Division I football program. We don't have a lot of time to get ready so we can't waste any minutes." Q: How does the fact that your kids will be in school a couple of weeks prior to the first game change your preparation? GB: "It really doesn't, you just go with the flow. The rules say we can practice 29 times before our first game, so from a preparation standpoint nothing changes. It's probably good for our kids because they get out of the doldrums of camp and get to meet other people, go to class and get their schedule set." Q: How is the senior leadership on this team? GB: "This is a senior oriented program. They will be given every opportunity to display leadership. Last year, we had great leadership and this year is no different with Cole Magner, Scott Mruczkowski and Jovon Burkes and that's just a couple of the guys. The great thing about the 15 we have is that every one of them has played a lot of football. They bring a perspective of being in the battle." Q: Any part of the team that appears ready for the season to start now? GB: "Our running backs (P.J. Pope, B.J. Lane, Raishaun Stover and Dan Macon) haven't missed a beat and our receivers (Magner, Charles Sharon, Cornelius McGrady, and Steve Sanders) have all had a good camp so far. Overall, I'm impressed by the way our defense is running to the ball, eliminating mistakes and doing things right. That's encouraging to see." Q: How have some of the new recruits adjusted to the college game? GB: "Anthony Turner is everything we thought he would be. I think he is going to be a starter here before his career is over. Corey Partridge is a defensive back/ receiver who has stood out and we're playing him at defensive back right now. He is playing defensive back right now and has excellent punt returning skills and has to have the ball in his hands. Pete Winovich is a kid that we brought in as a quarterback. We've moved him to tight end and has really stepped up there. He's going to be a big kid, has great ball skills and has really shown up early on special teams in camp." Q: We haven't had typical training camp weather, has that been a plus or minus for you? GB: "Obviously, there's a concern because we haven't practiced in any heat so far and I am sure this isn't the kind of weather we will see in Norman, Oklahoma. I'd like to think I can control the weather, but I can't so you just have to work with what you get." Q: Anything else to add? GB: "Basically we're just grinding through camp, young guys have to learn the system, old guys have to continue to get reps and get better and all of us just have to keep fighting through it."
