The Bowling Green State University football Falcons opened the home portion of the 2004 season with a 49-10 win over Southeast Missouri State University Saturday evening (Sept. 11). Following are some notes and numbers from the game...
The win was the Falcons' 14th consecutive regular-season victory at home.
Since 2001, the Falcons are now 12-0 when amassing 500 yards or more of total offense in a game.
Falcon sophomore Omar Jacobs had a career-high four TD passes (three vs. Liberty last year) and tied his career best with 24 completions ... he finished with 24 completions in 37 attempts for 285 yards.
Junior Steve Sanders had the longest rush of his career (20 yards).
Senior Shaun Suisham made three field goals on the night, all of at least 40 yards (in order, 40, 43 and 42) ... he now has 35 field goals in his career, ranking fifth on the school's all-time list ... Suisham's three field goals ties a Perry Stadium record that he shares (most recently accomplished last October against Central Michigan).
Junior Charles Sharon caught his 16th career TD pass and third of the season on an eight-yard pass from Jacobs.
Senior T. J. Carswell caused and recovered his first fumble of the season ... he has three recoveries and four forced fumbles in his career.
Senior James Hawkins caught the ninth TD pass of his career, a 20-yard pass from Jacobs.
Junior Monty Cooley had the first safety of his career on a tackle for loss ... he is the first Falcon player to record a safety since October 20, 2001, when Brandon Hicks tackled an Akron Zip in the end zone.
Junior Charles Sharon returned his first punt for a TD in his career (79 yards) ... it is the fourth longest in school history and is the first for BGSU since Robert Redd broke a 61-yard punt against Miami in 2001.
Senior Keon Newson forced his second fumble of the season and 11th of his career ... Newson led the MAC in that category with six forced fumbles last season ... he also recovered that SEMO fumble, his second fumble recovery of the season.
Senior Cornelius McGrady had his second career receiving TD, a 19-yard pass from Jacobs.
Redshirt sophomore Kenneth Brantley had a career-long 23-yard reception.
Redshirt freshman Sean O'Drobinak had the first reception of his career.
Junior Derrick Lett had the third TD catch of his career and first of the season on a six-yard pass from Jacobs.
True freshman Brandon Mack recovered a fumble forced by sophomore Patrick Curran.
Redshirt junior Josef Timchenko kicked a 40-yard field goal, on his first career play.
