CLEVELAND, Ohio - Bowling Green State University junior Emily Manser has been named the Mid-American Conference Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week. Manser, a member of the volleyball team, helped the Falcons to a 2-0 start in league play for the first time since 1998.
Manser is the second Falcon volleyball player to earn the award this season. Senior Melissa Mohr was named the Scholar-Athlete of the Week two weeks ago (Sept. 14).
For Manser, the award is her second of the week. On Monday (Sept. 27), she was named the MAC Player of the Week.
Manser, a native of Westerville, Ohio (North H.S.), helped the Falcons to wins over Toledo and Northern Illinois last weekend. The junior had 12 kills, 17 digs and three aces in a win over the then-undefeated Rockets, snapping UT's 10-match win streak. She then added 15 kills, 16 digs and four blocks in a win over the Huskies. For the week, Manser averaged 3.38 kills, 4.12 digs and 4.00 points per game while hitting .350.
Manser, a communication disorders major, maintains a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade-point average.
The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the previous week's competition. The winners are selected by one of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
The Falcons (9-4, 2-0 MAC) begin the road portion of the MAC schedule this weekend, taking on Miami Friday (Oct. 1) and Ball State the next night.
