SEASON REACHES MIDWAY POINT
Saturday's game with Toledo is sold out. It is the first capacity crowd to watch the Falcons at home since January 26, 2002 when BGSU hosted Kent State. It will be the 12th sellout at home since the 1998-99 season. The Falcons and Rockets have played each other (150 times) more than any other opponent on either team's schedule.
The team that trailed at halftime eventually won both games last season. The Falcons led 44-41 at the break before falling at Toledo, 83-80 and the Rockets held a 38-35 intermission lead before BGSU won 79-76 in overtime at home. Four of the last five meetings have been decided by four points or less, including two overtime tilts.
The Falcons hold a 47-28 lead in the series against the Rockets in Bowling Green. Since the 1998-99 season, BGSU is 72-16 at Anderson Arena, including 6-1 this year.
The Falcons are in their eighth season under head coach Dan Dakich. Dakich is second all-time at BGSU in winning percentage (.574) and fifth all-time in wins with a 126-94 record. He and his family were honored by the Red Cross prior to the NIU game for raising $1,777 for victims of the recent tsunami disaster overseas.
With a 75-57 MAC record, he ranks 11th all-time in conference game winning percentage and is 11th in MAC history in overall winning percentage. He also is one of just 19 MAC coaches to ever win 125 games or more at his institution and his 75 league wins are the 15th most in the history of the conference.
The Falcons lead the MAC and are ranked 10th in the country shooting 50.1% from the field this season. BGSU also ranks ninth in the nation and leads the league in assists at 18.0 per game. Also in the conference, the Falcons are second in free throw percentage (73.8) and second in blocked shots at 3.71 per game. The Falcons have taken a league-low 221 free throw attempts (15.7 per game).
Senior Josh Almanson leads the MAC averaging 18.5 points on 61.5% (12th in the nation) shooting from the field. He had his first career MAC double/double with 16 points and 11 rebounds against Ball State. He is the ninth most improved player in the country in scoring average adding 10.5 points per game to his total from a year ago. Last year, his offensive rebound and conventional three-point play with nine seconds left in OT gave BGSU its win in Anderson Arena against UT.
Senior John Reimold is sixth in the MAC averaging 16.8 points, and ranks second in the league in field goal percentage (57.5%) and first in three-point field goal percentage (50.0%). His three-point field goal percentage is fourth nationally. He has scored 1,480 points as a collegian (1,078 at BGSU and 402 at Loyola-Maryland as a freshman). He also ranks ninth in the league in blocked shots with 12.
