BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -
BGSU HEAD COACH Curt Miller
(On the Falcons' quick start to the game)
"(Before the game) we talked about energy, we talked about having focus. And, our focus was tremendous in this game. Despite their injuries, Western is a potent offensive team that can score at all five positions. We knew that we would have be at the top of our game to beat them, and we set the tone from the beginning. It was a great start."
(What was it that set the tone?)
"One word jumps to mind. In preparation for this game, we talked about tempo. We wanted to get the game up-tempo and take advantage of our depth, and I really liked the tempo from the beginning."
(On the Falcons' rebounding success)
"Western is a tremendous rebounding team. (Rebounding) was a point of emphasis this week, because they outrebounded us badly up in Kalamazoo. Rebounding set the tone early; we had a big rebounding advantage at halftime. And, we played up-tempo without turning it over."
(On the play of Tene Lewis)
"You know, you are always looking for the extra people to step up. You come to expect that Liz Honegger and Ali Mann are going to be tremendous, but you look to see who else will step up. Tene is our best defender, she brought energy off the bench, she really defended well, and she created tempo. She continues to step in passing lanes and get those breakaway layups, and her energy is something that this team really needs."
(On the team's success, as BG has won nine of the last 10 games)
"We don't ever forget who we are; we view ourselves as a blue-collar team. We have to go out and earn every victory, and we lay it all on the line every game. This team goes out and plays hard, and they leave it all out there. They don't get ahead of themselves and they take it game by game. I really like this team's attitude; they are confident but not cocky, and I like to go to battle with a team like that."
BGSU SENIOR GUARD Tene Lewis
"We came into the game focused, and we knew we had to push tempo. Transition points kind of got us motivated."
(On her defensive play)
"That's all my coach and teammates ask of me, to play defense, and I don't have any complaints with that. I'm not a person that looks to score; I'm more of a passer and a person that will sacrifice their body at the other end. I don't mind playing defense at all."
"We are humble, but at the same time, we want to win a championship. We want to go into each game with a killer mentality. We need to go after each team, and not let up."
BGSU SOPHOMORE CENTER Liz Honegger
"Once you get a stop at the defensive end and score at the other end, you can sometimes keep that going. That's what happened for us today."
"Western is a tough team. Even without (Casey) Rost and (Maria) Jilian, they are still a good team. They beat Eastern Michigan and lost a close one at Kent. We are just playing our game right now."
"One thing Coach Miller has talked about is focus. It seems that every night in our league, anybody can beat anybody, as we have seen upset after upset. We just have to come out focused each day and play our game."
