Falcons Go 2-0 on Day One of Ohio Charity Classic

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The winning continues for the Bowling Green State University softball team in fall action, as the Falcons won two games on Saturday (Oct. 1) at the Ohio Collegiate Charity Classic in Columbus. The Brown and Orange posted 2-0 win over Dayton and a 3-1 victory over Cleveland State, to move to 6-0 in fall ball.
In the opening game, the Falcons and Flyers were scoreless through four innings. In the fifth frame, senior Lindsay Heimrich led off with a sharp single to left, and classmate Abby Habicht hit a ball off the fence for a double, putting runners at second and third. Sophomore Allison Vallas followed with a two-run single down the third-base line to plate the only runs of the game.
Freshman Hayley Wiemer pitched five innings of one-hit shutout ball, while sophomore Emily Gouge worked the final two frames, striking out all six batters she faced.
In the CSU game, the Falcons plated a pair of first-inning runs, with the first scoring on a bases-loaded fielder's choice and the second coming across on an RBI hit by sophomore Dawnjene DeLong.
The Falcons' final run came on a Wiemer RBI in the seventh inning.
Senior Liz Vrabel, the 2005 Mid-American Conference Pitcher of the Year, picked up the complete-game win, allowing one run.
The Falcons' weekend action concludes with three Sunday games (Oct. 2), against Kent State, Akron and Wright State.
