BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -
Gregg Brandon
Opening comment
"Well I'll just say this crowd was awesome. When we showed up
at 2 o'clock and did the team walk through tent city, they were cranked
then. That is special. That is what playing at Bowling Green is all about. It was awesome. This is college football at Bowling Green. And next we are playing OU and we need it just like it was, even better. Because this is a big MAC game coming up so it is great that the fans came out and supported us."
Talking about the offense...
"Well I think we scored on special teams, and did a nice job there. The offense took care of the ball. Omar did a nice job managing and we really protected him well today. I thought that was the key for the passing game. He was never under much duress. Our receivers got open and Omar put the ball on the money. When all that stuff is working, we are pretty tough to stop."
Commenting on no names on the back of the jerseys...
"We were playing for the bird on the side of the helmet and we are not playing for anybody's name on the back. And it is homecoming and all of the guys that came back for this game. They are looking out there seeing who number 12 is, who #77 is, who #40 is, whoever. This is who they are looking for, they are not looking at the kid's name. We'll decide if we are going to put the names back on. I'll let the seniors decide that."
Talking about the defense...
"We had just the one series in the first half where we let up, I thought. And they ran the ball on us and eventually scored. And we talked about that at halftime. Our kids here expect perfection and that's because we demand it. And when we struggle in the various phases of the game, no matter what the score is we still address it and that is what we did at halftime."
Talking about Omar...
"We talked with Omar after Boise about managing and taking care of the
football better, which he did. He was able to complete some throws today that is vintage Omar I thought. A lot of times he hung in the pocket and got the ball to the open guy, he didn't rush things, he scrambled around and made some nice plays today. Omar needed this one as bad as all of us and we did a nice job
tonight."
Commenting on pumping up the crowd...
"We finally got a 3rd down bell. You know, we get a 3rd down bell and
we get this place rocking. We just need to turn the volume up and get this thing cranked up. Listen, I went to Boise St., and it is nice to see a sea of orange, not at Boise St. but out here. And it was loud there and it was rocking. And there is not a lot of difference between Boise and Bowling Green in my opinion."
Omar Jacobs
Talk about playing at home for the first time...
"It feels great coming back home, that is all we needed. We played away for three weeks straight. It was great to come back and see all the guys and they were happy to see us. It was a great feeling to go out and put up 70 points in front of a home crowd is wonderful."
It seemed like your line did a great job for you today, especially on first downs...
"I credit my line, sometimes they get over shadowed if we don't score, but they did a great job tonight. I thanked the whole line and all the guys for getting open tonight, and it's a team effort and it starts up front, with the offensive line giving protection."
Is this the kind of win you guys needed...
"Most defiantly, because of this win a lot of guys got to play and our defense did well. It's good to roll into a MAC game and come back home to this crowd and we hope we have the same crowd next week."
How good did you feel, you were 26/30...
"It felt great. I just had to come back and get down to basics. We practiced the fundamentals this week and took what they gave us, and sometimes I tried to force things and hit the home run all the time, but I had to get back to fundamentals, and have fun."
Steve Sanders
You caught a touchdown and then doing a reverse, just shows how versatile the offense is and can explode on you at any time...
"I am just a product of great play calling. Coaches call the play and we run them, just so happens that it worked well, and I had some good blocks on the reverse; Omar threw a good pass. It's a great feeling to come out here and put up 70 points."
Do you wish you had thrown for a touchdown?
"That's the play I wanted, if I didn't play another play, that's the one I wanted to throw a touchdown to Omar. But it didn't happen so hopefully we have another chance down the road to do it."
Did the coaches tell you guys that you weren't going to have your names on the jersey?
"He told us. We felt like we didn't play as a team. The name on the front is more important then the one on the back, and coach explained that to us, and we were all behind him."
Can you talk about the offense over all?
"Our focus was great this week in practice, and we wanted to execute on
everything. The little things we didn't execute in Boise hurt us. We came out here with the mindset to score every time we touched the ball, and for the most part we did. Everyone was clicking on all cylinders, and that showed because we put up 70 points."
Does this win show you anything different?
"Yes, we dominated and it was our first home game with a great crowed. We
wanted to show the fans that they have a reason to cheer. For a minuet everyone was down because we didn't play a great game in Boise, but it goes to show you that we can bounce back. It shows you our leadership and team chemistry."
What was the locker room like after the game?
"It was fired up, because it was a great victory. We got some young guys in there who got to play, and us being older guys love to see that. They get to play, and coaches are down the field happy."
Was Omar covered on that play?
"Yes he told me though that he is like Randy Moss so I need to throw it up there to him."
Jelani Jordan
Talk about the five turnovers...
"We haven't done that well this season, but we watched on film that they
dropped the ball a lot, and the coaches called good plays that allowed me and Antonio to get in good position to get the interception. We had good play calling by the coaches and the line gave good pressure."
How much of a confidence booster was this?
"It feels great, because the defense hasn't been looking real good this season."
What did you guys talk about on the defensive side of the ball?
"We too went back to the fundamentals. We talked about tackling because a lot of the time we had the ball carrier we just wouldn't make tackles.
You held the team to seven points does this help with the confidence?
"Yes its building back up. We had a linebacker from last year come talk to us about the kind of defense we use to have. He yelled at us because we weren't running and hitting anyone, we were getting hit, and staying on the ground. So he got on us about that."
Bobby Wallace
Wallace opening comment...
"I really don't have much to say about us, but I do have a lot to say about Omar Jacobs. He is a great player. That he throw he made running to his left, I don't know many quarterbacks that could have made that throw. He had a great game against us. We couldn't get any pressure on him and he picked us apart. He has great receivers that catch the ball even when we hit them."
"Our offense didn't help our defense at all. The first three drives we had an illegal procedure on each drive that put us at first-and-15. We couldn't convert and it kept our defense on the field too long."
Commenting on Temple's ability to successfully run the ball...
"I wish we would have ran it more. I wish we would have held onto the ball when we ran it. We were very ineffective throwing it, giving them an interception for a touchdown. We wanted to run it and mix it up, but in hindsight I wish we would have ran it even more."
Commenting RB Umar Ferguson...
"I thought he ran it really well. Umar is a good back. He was trying to get extra effort when he fumbled and you can't blame a back for doing that. The only problem is when you play Bowling Green and fumble the ball it's like giving them seven points. They are almost impossible to stop. They are a very good offensive football team."
