Mayberry Earns MAC Defensive Player of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Senior Terrill Mayberry was named Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week after helping the Falcons to a 27-7 win over Buffalo on Saturday. For the game the Farmington Hills, Michigan native record two interceptions, a forced fumble, as well as eight tackles and a pass deflection.
Mayberry leads the Falcons with 45 tackles and is second with three interceptions on the season. He is also tied for the team lead with two pass breakups and the one forced fumble.
Mayberry is the third consecutive Falcon to capture D-POW after Devon Parks (Oct. 10) and Jelani Jordan (Oct. 3) earned the award the previous two weeks.
WEST DIVISION
Offensive Player of the Week
Kent Smith, quarterback Central Michigan (Sr., Toledo, Ohio)
Smith was responsible for three touchdowns - two passing and one rushing - in a 37-10 triumph over Ohio. Smith directed five scoring drives during the game while piling up 272 yards of total offense. He completed 15-of-24 pass attempts for 228 yards and added 44 yards on 10 rushing attempts.
Defensive Player of the Week
Anthony Jordan, linebacker, Toledo (Sr., Whitehall, Ohio)
Jordan had eight tackles and an interception he returned for a touchdown in a 34-14 win at Ball State. Jordan's pick and score came early in the fourth quarter and were the game's final points. The Rocket defense allowed just one Ball State touchdown as the Cardinals' other points came on a blocked punt return.
Special Teams Player of the Week
Damien Linson, punt return, Central Michigan (Jr., Plymouth, N.C.)
Linson returned a punt 78 for a touchdown with 1:03 left in the second quarter and boost CMU's lead to 23-7 at the time. The Chippewas went on to win 37-10. Linson's return set a Kelly/Shorts Stadium record and was Linson's second career touchdown on a punt return.
EAST DIVISION
Offensive Player of the Week
Brandon Murphy, running back, Miami (So., Strongsville, Ohio)
Murphy rushed for a career-high 184 yards and had two rushing touchdowns in a 51-23 win over Akron. Murphy averaged 7.1 yards per carry and twice punched it in from one-yard out. His 67-yard run in the second quarter was Miami's longest play from scrimmage this year.
Defensive Player of the Week
Terrill Mayberry, free safety, Bowling Green (Sr., Farmington Hills, Mich.)
Mayberry had two interceptions and a forced fumble in a 27-7 win at Buffalo. He forced a fumble in the second quarter and had his picks in the third and fourth quarters, both on drives that could have allowed the Bulls to tie the game. Mayberry also had eight tackles and a pass deflection.
Special Teams Player of the Week
Matt Miller, placekicker, Ohio (Sr., Westerville, Ohio) Punting into a 15-20 mph wind, Miller averaged 33.8 ypk at Central Michigan. Miller dropped three kicks inside the Chippewas' 10-yard line. He also added a 26-yard field goal as he added those duties for the first time in his collegiate career.
