BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University women's soccer team, riding a school-record five-match winning streak, concludes the regular-season schedule with three Mid-American Conference road matches, including a pair this weekend ... the Falcons of head coach Andy Richards (10-6-0, 6-2-0 MAC), currently in second place in the league standings, will play a pair of contests in the state of Michigan, beginning with Friday's (Oct. 21) match at Central Michigan University ... that game will begin at 3:00 p.m. at the CMU Soccer Complex ... then, the Brown and Orange will face Eastern Michigan University Sunday afternoon (Oct. 23) at Scicluna Field, with kickoff set for 1:00 p.m. ... BGSU then ends the regular season with an Oct. 28 match against The University of Toledo.

BGSU CLINCHES MAC TOURNAMENT BERTH
Following that UT match, the Falcons' season will continue with a first-round match in the MAC Tournament on Nov. 1 ... BGSU has clinched a berth in the eight-team tournament for the fourth consecutive year.

LAST WEEKEND
The Falcons concluded the most successful homestand in history with two more shutout wins last weekend ... on Friday (Oct. 14), the Brown and Orange got a pair of goals midway through the second half for a 2-0 win over Kent State ... seniors Samantha Meister and Ashley Wentzel scored just 85 seconds apart, while classmate Ali Shingler made six saves in net ... two days later (Oct. 16), a four-goal explosion in the first half was more than enough for the Falcons, who topped Buffalo by a 4-0 count ... junior Lindsay Carter, freshman Kristin McDonald and senior Leah Eggleton scored for the Falcons, who also benefitted from a UB 'own goal' just 3:30 into the match.

THE MAC RACE
The Falcons have never been so high in the MAC standings so late in the season ... with three matches remaining in the regular season, BGSU is in second place, three points behind first-place Western Michigan ... BG is two points ahead of both Central Michigan (Friday's opponent) and Ball State, and three points up on fifth-place Toledo ... the top-four teams in the final regular-season standings will host first-round matches in the MAC Tournament ... each of the league's 12 schools will be in action this Friday (Oct. 21) and Sunday (Oct. 23) and will conclude the regular-season on Friday, Oct. 28 ... the current MAC standings, with each team's remaining schedule ...

As mentioned, the Falcons' win over Buffalo concluded the most successful homestand in school history ... BGSU went 4-0-0 with four shutout wins over the last two weekends at Cochrane Field, outscoring opponents by a 9-0 count.

HEAD COACH Andy Richards
Andy Richards is in his sixth season as a collegiate head coach, all with the Falcons ... he picked up his 50th career win last month (Sept. 11), and now has an overall record of 57-58-10, including a MAC Tournament mark of 7-3-1 ... Richards has led BGSU to the four finest seasons in school history over his first five years ... he has guided the Falcons to the semifinal round of the MAC Tournament on four occasions, to the championship match three times, and, in 2004, to the first league tourney title and NCAA Tournament berth in school history ... Eric Golz is in his second season with the program, and his first as the top assistant.

ABOUT THE FALCONS
BGSU enters the weekend with an overall record of 10-6-0, and the Falcons are in second place in the MAC with a 6-2-0 league ledger ... last weekend, the Falcons won a pair of home matches, and BGSU is riding a season-high five-match win streak ... after a 3-1 win at Miami (Oct. 2), the Brown and Orange returned to Cochrane Field for wins over Ohio, Akron, Kent State and Buffalo ... senior Samantha Meister has a team-high 17 points, while classmate Britt Anderson is right behind with 15 ... Meister leads the team with six goals, while Anderson has five ... another senior, Julie Trundle, has a pair of goals, a team- and MAC-best eight assists and 12 points, while freshman Corbie Yee has four goals and eight points ... another freshman, Kristin McDonald, has seven points, while seniors Leah Eggleton and Ashley Wentzel have six apiece and junior Lindsay Carter five ... senior Ali Shingler has started all 16 matches in goal this season, and has 77 saves and a 1.43 goals-against average ... BG returned 15 letterwinners, including eight starters, from last year's MAC Tournament championship team ... the group of returnees includes no fewer than nine seniors, the most in school history ... the senior class has become the first class in school history to qualify for the MAC Tournament in four consecutive seasons ... THE OPPONENTS / THE SERIES
Central Michigan enters the BGSU match with an overall record of 6-7-2, and the Chippewas are 5-2-1 in MAC play, good for a third-place tie ... after going undefeated through the first six league matches, Central suffered road losses to Northern Illinois (2-0) and first-place Western Michigan (2-1) last weekend ... the Chippewas are 4-1-1 at home this year, including 3-0-1 in conference play ... a pair of freshmen, Erica Rohren and Katy Boggan, pace the team in scoring ... Rohren has team-high totals of four goals and nine points, while Boggan's seven points include three assists ... juniors Alison Heydorn and Jacquie Lacek are tied for the team lead with four assists each, and both players have six points on the year ... in net, junior Anne Decker has played in all but one CMU match, and has 61 saves and a 1.23 goals-against average ... the Chippewas went 10-8-3 a year ago, tying for third place in the MAC with a 6-3-3 league record ... head coach Tony DiTucci welcomed back 10 letterwinners, including seven starters, from that team ... DiTucci is 16-15-5 in his second year, both at CMU and as a collegiate head coach.

Eastern Michigan enters the weekend with an overall mark of 6-9-1, and the Eagles are 4-4-0 in MAC play to date ... EMU will play a Friday (Oct. 21) home contest vs. Toledo before meeting BG on Sunday ... Eastern snapped a three-match losing streak with Sunday's (Oct. 16) 2-1 victory at Northern Illinois ... the Eagles' 3-2-0 home record includes a 2-2-0 conference mark ... individually, senior Michele Lawrence has scored eight of the team's 16 goals this fall, and has 17 points ... junior Lauren Clyne, the team's only other multiple-goal scorer to date, has three goals for six points this season ... in goal, sophomore Sara Schiffbauer has started the last 12 matches, and is 4-6-1 with 55 saves and a GAA of 1.29 ... a total of 16 letterwinners, including nine starters, returned from last year's 10-7-3 team ... that squad finished 6-4-2 in MAC play ... head coach Scott Hall, in his seventh season, has a record of 77-52-14.

The Falcons hold a slim 4-3-2 lead over Central Michigan in the all-time series between the teams ... BGSU has won two of the prior three meetings in Mount Pleasant, but the lone road loss came last year, a 1-0 CMU win on Sept. 24 ... the teams have met in each of the last two MAC Tournaments, battling to a 0-0 tie in the semifinal round two years ago before the Falcons advanced on penalty kicks (Nov. 7, 2003) ... exactly one year later, the teams met in the tourney championship match in Athens, Ohio, with Gina Rossi scoring the Falcons' first goal in a 2-0 win (Nov. 7, 2004) ... Ali Shingler posted shutouts in each of the two league tourney contests.

The Falcons trail Eastern Michigan, 6-4-1, in that series, but BGSU is 4-3-1 in road meetings vs. the Eagles, as eight of the 11 series matches have been held at Scicluna Field ... last year, however, three Eastern goals on consecutive shots led to a 3-2 Eagle home win (Sept. 26, 2004) ... that loss was the final match in BG's nine-match winless streak, before the Falcons began the turnaround that resulted in the 2004 MAC Tournament title ... Molly Bremen and Samantha Meister scored goals in last season's meeting, with Leah Eggleton and Tiernay Tilford assisting on both ... that match broke a five-contest road unbeaten streak for the Brown and Orange at Scicluna Field ... included in that stretch were three MAC Tournament quarterfinal wins ... the home team has won only three series meetings, with last year's EMU win marking the first home victory for either team since 1998.

SENIOR PRIDE
Sunday's match vs. Buffalo marked the final regular-season home contest for the Falcons' senior class ... the 2005 Falcons have nine seniors, the most in school history ... that group includes Britt Anderson, Molly Bremen, Leah Eggleton, Samantha Meister, Megan Rapp, Natalie Sampiller, Ali Shingler, Julie Trundle and Ashley Wentzel ... obviously, the Falcons have a chance to host a MAC Tournament match or matches.

SENIOR PRIDE II (AND III)

With at least four matches remaining (three regular-season contests and a MAC Tournament match), the Falcons' senior class already can make a claim to being the most successful group in school history ... the win over Buffalo was the Falcons' 40th since the start of the 2002 season, the most wins over a four-year span in the history of the program.

Additionally, the Falcons' 2005 seniors have become the first class in BG history to qualify for the MAC Tournament in all four seasons ... BGSU had never made the league tourney in back-to-back seasons, prior to the current run.

HOME WINS ...

The Falcons have set a school record for home wins in a season ... BGSU wrapped up the regular-season portion of the home slate with a record of 6-2-0 ... the 2005 team also is the first in school history to have a winning record at home ... the 2002 Falcons held the old mark for home wins in a season, having gone 5-5-0 ... the 1997 (4-4-0) and 2001 (4-4-1) teams joined that '02 squad with .500 marks at Cochrane Field.

The Falcons' Sunday win was the sixth in a row at Cochrane, a school record ... the old record of four consecutive home wins was set in 1999 (Aug. 27-Sept. 15).

OVERALL WINS ...
As mentioned, the Falcons have won five consecutive overall matches ... the previous school mark had been three-straight wins, set eight times over the years.

SHINGLER AND SHUTOUT WINS ...

The Falcons had never posted more than two consecutive shutouts over the first eight-plus years of the program ... now, however, senior goalkeeper Ali Shingler and the Falcons have blanked four consecutive opponents, having last allowed a goal late in the Miami match of Oct. 2 ... BGSU's current shutout streak of 363:50 is a new school mark ... the old record was 340:24, set in 2002 (Sept. 27-Oct. 6).

Shingler has a personal shutout streak of 351:06, setting a new BGSU record ... the old mark was the aforementioned 340:24 streak in 2002, set by Erika Flanders ... Shingler now has two of the three longest individual shutout streaks in BG annals.

BGSU has not allowed a goal at home in a span of 504:44, since late in the first half of the Eastern Illinois match way back on Sept. 11 ... Shingler has not had to fish a ball out of the back of the net in exactly 447 minutes at Cochrane.

Shingler has lowered her seasonal goals-against average by over half a goal, from 2.00 to 1.43, over the last five matches ... she finished the home portion of the schedule with a GAA of only 1.21 at Cochrane Field, and did not allow a single goal in four MAC matches at home this year.

In the history of the program (eight-plus years), the Falcons had never posted back-to-back shutouts of MAC foes in the same weekend ... now, though, BGSU has done so in two consecutive weekends.

FALCON NOTES AND NUMBERS

BGSU scored four times in the first half vs. Buffalo, tying a season high ... the Falcons also had four goals in the first half of the home win over Cleveland State on Sept. 16.

On 'Senior Day,' senior Julie Trundle broke the school record for career matches started ... the Buffalo match marked the 80th start of Trundle's career, breaking the record of 79, set by Beth Rieman (2001-04) ... Rieman, the captain of last year's MAC Tournament championship team, was in attendance at Sunday's match.

Rieman was far from the only BGSU women's soccer alumna on hand Sunday ... other former Falcons that participated in the 'Senior Day' pregame ceremonies included Ashley Enser, Jamie Eshleman, Kasey Freeman, Autumn Harris, Michelle Lisy, Janice Mentrup, Kylene Newell and Nikki Pucillo ... a number of other Falcon alums were also in attendance at the match.

The Falcons also honored Leslie Dawley, who entered BGSU in the fall of 2002 with the current senior class ... Dawley, a freshman in 2002, collapsed during a game against Buffalo and later passed away ... on Sunday, Leslie's parents, Greg and Wendy Dawley, were on hand for the match and the ceremonies ... BG also honored Leslie's memory by starting the match with only 10 players on the field.

BGSU head coach Andy Richards used every available player on his roster in the Buffalo match ... a total of 20 players saw action ... that group included freshman walk-on Lisa Chalupa, a Bowling Green native who played in her first collegiate match.

Freshman Brianne Eisenhard made the first start of her collegiate career in the UB match ... classmates Susan Hunter (15th start) and Corbie Yee (sixth start) also were in Sunday's starting lineup, marking the first time this season that the Falcons' starters included three frosh.

Hunter and another freshman, Amanda Campbell, picked up her first collegiate points on assists in the win over the Bulls ... yet another freshman, Kristin McDonald, had garnered her first assist two days earlier, in the win over KSU.

Nine different players found the scoresheet in Sunday's win ... three different Falcons scored goals, while six other BG players recorded one assist apiece.

BGSU defeated the defending MAC regular-season co-champions on back-to-back Fridays at Cochrane Field ... after downing Ohio on Oct. 7, the Falcons topped Kent State by an identical 2-0 score one week later ... KSU and Ohio tied for the regular-season crown a year ago, before the Falcons won the league tourney title.

Senior Ashley Wentzel, who scored the match-winning goal in the Oct. 9 win over Akron, put together the first two-match goal-scoring streak of her career after finding the back of the net vs. the Golden Flashes on Friday (Oct. 14) ... Wentzel now has four career goals.

Senior Samantha Meister has moved into sole possession of second place on the BGSU career scoring list, and now has 68 points ... Meister passed Jill Conover (65 points from 1999-2002), and now trails only Kristy Coppes, who had a whopping 111 points over her Falcon career (2001-04).

LEADERS OF THE MAC
Falcon players are at or near the top of a number of MAC lists ... senior Julie Trundle leads the league in both assists (eight) and assists per match (0.50) ... senior Samantha Meister is tied for first in the MAC in points (17), while classmate Britt Anderson is fourth (15) ... Trundle is tied for sixth in the league in that category (12) ... Anderson is third in points per game (1.07), with Meister tied for fourth (1.06) and Trundle deadlocked for ninth (0.75) ... Meister is tied for third in goals (six), with Anderson tied for sixth (five) and freshman Corbie Yee deadlocked for eighth (four) ... Meister and Anderson are tied for fourth in the MAC with five assists ... Anderson, Meister and Yee each have two match-winning goals to tie for fourth in the conference ... at the other end of the field, senior goalkeeper Ali Shingler is tied for second in the MAC in saves (77), fourth in both saves per match (4.81) and shutouts (four) and eighth in saves pct. (.778) ... in MAC matches only, Trundle leads the league in assists (five) and assists per match (0.62) ... as a team, BG is tied for first in goals, assists, points and shutouts in conference matches.
