BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University women's soccer team enters the final week of the regular season with a chance to win an outright Mid-American Conference championship ... but, the Falcons of head coach Andy Richards (12-6-0, 8-2-0 MAC) face a difficult roadblock ... BGSU closes the regular season with Friday's (Oct. 28) match at the arch-rival University of Toledo ... kickoff time is 3:00 p.m. at UT's Scott Park ... then, the Falcons will play a home game in the quarterfinal round of the MAC Tournament on Tuesday, Nov. 1 ... BGSU will face an opponent to be determined.

LAST WEEKEND
The Falcons extended the team's school-record winning streak to seven matches, with a pair of 2-1 victories on the road ... junior Lindsay Carter scored a pair of goals in BG's Friday (Oct. 21) win at Central Michigan ... two days later, freshman Corbie Yee and senior Julie Trundle scored second-half goals as the Falcons won at Eastern Michigan ... the wins vaulted BGSU into first place in the MAC standings.

BGSU CLINCHES MAC TOURNAMENT HOME GAME
The Falcons' nine seniors will get to play at least one more match at Cochrane Field ... BGSU's wins over the weekend clinched a top-four seed and a home-field berth for the MAC Tournament's quarterfinal round.

THE FALCONS AND THE MAC RACE
With one match left in the regular season, the Falcons lead the MAC ... a BGSU win at Toledo would clinch an outright MAC regular-season championship, and the top seed for the MAC Tournament ... a Falcon tie at UT on Friday would ensure at least a co-championship for the Brown and Orange, as a BGSU tie and a Ball State win (at Miami) would result in a first-place tie between the Falcons and Cardinals ... even with a loss at UT, the Falcons could win or share the league tourney title, provided BSU also loses ... the worst BG can finish is in a tie for second place ... both Ball State and Western Michigan would win a head-to-head tiebreaker with BG, by virtue of each team's regular-season win over the Falcons ... the top-four teams will host first-round matches in the MAC Tournament, with seeds one through four hosting seeds five through eight (#8 at #1, #7 at #2, etc.) ... following the quarterfinals, the top-seeded team among the four survivors will host the subsequent two rounds, with the semifinals set for Nov. 4 and the championship on Nov. 6 ... the current MAC standings and Friday schedule ...

WINNING STREAK NOW AT SEVEN
Sunday's win at Eastern Michigan increased the Falcons' current winning streak to seven matches, a school record by a long shot ... prior to the current stretch, the school record was three consecutive wins, amassed on eight different occasions over the years.

Lindsay Carter NAMED MAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
On Monday (Oct. 24), junior Lindsay Carter was named the MAC Player of the Week ... Carter earned the honor for the first time this season and the second time in her career ... a native of Hilliard, Ohio (Darby HS), Carter directly contributed to three of the Falcons' four goals in the wins at CMU and EMU ... she had both of BG's goals vs. the Chippewas, and was fouled in the box at Eastern, leading to a penalty kick and what proved to be the winning goal ... Carter is just the third Falcon to earn league P-O-W honors more than once, joining Kristy Coppes (three times) and Jill Conover (twice).

Ali Shingler NAMED MAC SCHOLAR-ATHLETE OF WEEK
Last Thursday (Oct. 20), Ali Shingler was named the MAC's Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week, earning that honor for the first time in her Falcon career ... the Grove City, Ohio, native garnered the award after helping BG to a pair of shutout wins, over Kent State and Buffalo, the previous weekend ... a fifth-year senior, Shingler has a dual major of biology and applied health science, and a perfect 4.00 GPA ... the MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and performs well during that week's competition ... the winners are selcted by a voting group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.

HEAD COACH Andy Richards
Andy Richards is in his sixth season as a collegiate head coach, all with the Falcons ... he picked up his 50th career win on Sept. 11 vs. Eastern Illinois, and now has an overall record of 59-58-10, including a MAC Tournament mark of 7-3-1 ... Richards led BGSU to the four finest seasons in school history over his first five years ... he has guided the Falcons to the semifinal round of the MAC Tournament on four occasions, to the championship match three times, and, in 2004, to the first league tourney title and NCAA Tournament berth in school history ... Eric Golz is in his second season with the program, and his first as the top assistant.

ABOUT THE FALCONS
BGSU enters the Toledo match with an overall record of 12-6-0, and the Falcons are in first place in the MAC with a 8-2-0 league ledger ... last weekend, BG won a pair of road matches to extend the school-record winning streak to seven ... after a 3-1 win at Miami (Oct. 2), the Brown and Orange returned to Cochrane Field for wins over Ohio, Akron, Kent State and Buffalo ... then, BG won at Central Michigan and Eastern Michigan ... senior Samantha Meister has a team-high 18 points on the season, while classmate Britt Anderson is right behind with 16 ... Meister leads the team with six goals, while Anderson and freshman Corbie Yee have five apiece ... another senior, Julie Trundle, has three goals, a team- and MAC-best nine assists and 15 points, while Yee has 11 points ... junior Lindsay Carter has scored nine points and freshman Kristin McDonald seven, while seniors Leah Eggleton and Ashley Wentzel have six apiece ... senior Ali Shingler has started all 18 matches in goal this season, and has 89 saves and a 1.38 goals-against average ... BG returned 15 letterwinners, including eight starters, from last year's MAC Tournament championship team ... the group of returnees includes no fewer than nine seniors, the most in school history ... the senior class has become the first class in school history to qualify for the MAC Tournament in four consecutive seasons ... THE OPPONENT / THE SERIES
Toledo enters the BGSU match with an overall record of 10-6-1, and the Rockets are 5-4-1 in MAC play, good for a sixth-place tie ... UT, 6-1-0 at home this season, is riding a six-match winning streak at Scott Park ... last weekend, the Rockets saw a four-match overall winning streak come to an end with a 4-1 loss at Eastern Michigan (Oct. 21) ... Toledo then battled Central Michigan to a scoreless tie on Sunday (Oct. 23) ... individually, senior Kelly Langenbeck leads the team, and is tied for the MAC lead, with eight goals ... Langenback has 16 points, while classmate Pam Richard has nine points, including four goals ... junior Diana Ginley and sophomore Suzi Siwinski have seven points apiece, with Siwinski's five assists the most on the team ... junior Jen Whipple has played in all 17 of UT's matches in goal, and has 64 saves and a goals-against average of just 0.97 ... head coach Brad Evans welcomed back a whopping 23 letterwinners, including 10 starters, from last year's 7-9-3 team ... Evans has a record of 39-44-7 with the Rockets and 106-70-9 as a collegiate head coach.

The Falcons hold a slim 4-3-1 lead over Toledo in the all-time series between the teams ... BGSU is 4-1-0 in road matches vs. the Rockets, including a perfect 4-0 mark at Scott Park (the Falcons' lone road loss came at the Glass Bowl in 1997) ... last season, a year to the day before this year's meeting, BGSU also went to Scott Park to close the MAC schedule ... Lindsay Carter scored a pair of goals, while Ali Shingler pitched a shutout in net, to help the Falcons post a 3-0 win (Oct. 28, 2004) ... three years ago, Julie Trundle's first career goal came at Scott Park, and led to a 1-0 BG victory (Sept. 6, 2002) ... the home team has won only one of the eight series meetings, that 1997 contest.

WATCH OUT: WINS RECORDS FALLING

BGSU has tied the school record for wins in a season, with 12 ... the 2002 team also had 12 wins, going 12-8-2 ... one of those wins in '02 came in the MAC Tournament, meaning that this year's club has set a new record for most regular-season victories.

The Falcons have broken the school single-season records for MAC wins and points ... that 2002 team held the old marks, having gone 7-4-1 to total 22 points ... the 2005 team also will break the '02 squad's record for winning percentage in MAC play.

The '05 team will be just the second in BGSU history to finish with a winning record ... that 2002 team was the only other Falcon squad to do so ... that team also set a school record for fewest losses (eight), which the 2005 team will either tie or break.

Senior Ali Shingler has tied the single-season mark for wins by a goalkeeper ... Shingler is 12-6-0, having had the decision in each of this year's 18 matches to date ... Erika Flanders went 12-8-2 for the 2002 team ... Shingler, of course, has set the BGSU goalkeeping record for MAC wins in a season, with eight.

SENIOR PRIDE

With at least two matches remaining (the Toledo contest and a MAC Tournament home quarterfinal match), the Falcons' senior class already can make a claim to being the most successful group in school history ... the senior class includes Britt Anderson, Molly Bremen, Leah Eggleton, Samantha Meister, Megan Rapp, Natalie Sampiller, Ali Shingler, Julie Trundle and Ashley Wentzel ... the win over Eastern Michigan was the Falcons' 42nd since the start of the 2002 season, the most wins over a four-year span in the history of the program.

Additionally, the Falcons' 2005 seniors have become the first class in BG history to qualify for the MAC Tournament in all four seasons ... BGSU had never made back-to-back appearances in the league tourney, prior to the current run.

DURING THE WINNING STREAK ...

On Sept. 30, BGSU's offense was held without a shot on goal for the first time in school history, in a 3-0 loss at Ball State ... since that time, however, BGSU has outscored opponents, 16-3, in seven matches, all wins.

Freshman Corbie Yee leads the Falcons with four goals and nine points during the seven-match winning streak, while junior Lindsay Carter and senior Julie Trundle have seven points apiece ... seniors Samantha Meister and Britt Anderson have six points each during the streak.

Senior Ali Shingler has lowered her goals-against average from 2.00 to 1.38 during the streak ... in those seven contests, Shingler has a microscopic 0.44 GAA and a saves percentage of .912.

FALCON NOTES AND NUMBERS

The Falcons have broken the school record for wins in a month ... BGSU is 7-0-0 in October ... the old record of six wins was set last October, as the 2004 team went 6-3-1 in that month ... in the last two years combined, the Falcons are 16-4-1 in the months of October and November.

For the first time in school history, the Falcons have moved six games over .500, both overall and in MAC play ... BGSU is currently 12-6-0, and 8-2-0 in the conference ... the Falcons had been five games over the break-even mark once, at 12-7-2 in 2002.

In conference play, BG had been as many as four games over .500 on just one prior occasion, also in 2002 ... the Falcons were 7-3-1 in league action that season, before dropping the final conference regular-season contest.

With Sunday's win at Eastern Michigan, head coach Andy Richards has moved his overall record over the .500 mark ... Richards, in his sixth season as a collegiate head coach (all at BGSU), now has a record of 59-58-10.

Senior Ali Shingler's win in goal at Eastern Michigan was the 27th of her career, the second-highest total in school history ... Erika Flanders holds the school record, with 34.

The Falcons now trail EMU, 6-5-1, in the all-time series between the teams ... but, BGSU is 5-3-1 in road meetings vs. the Eagles, and the Falcons have gone 5-1-1 in the last seven road matches against Eastern ... the home team has won only three of the 12 series meetings.

In the Central Michigan series, BGSU now holds a 5-3-2 lead, including a 3-1-0 mark in matches played in Mount Pleasant.

Corbie Yee's goal at Eastern was her fifth of the season ... she now has 11 points to rank fourth on the team ... Yee's point total is the highest by a freshman since Julie Trundle had 18 points and Samantha Meister 17 in the 2002 season.

Trundle became the first Falcon to convert two penalty kicks in the same season since Beth Wechsler in 2001 ... Wechsler was 2-for-2 on PKs in both 2000 and '01 ... Trundle, a perfect 2-for-2 this fall, is 3-for-4 on penalty kicks in her career, second behind Wechsler (4-for-4) on the BG chart.

Meister now has 69 points to rank second on the BGSU career scoring list ... Kristy Coppes (2001-04) holds the school record with a whopping 111 points ... Trundle, fourth on that list, now has 56 points in her BG tenure.

Shingler has a 1.13 GAA in MAC matches this fall to date.

The Falcons' lengthy shutout streak finally came to an end in Friday's CMU match ... the Chippewas' goal late in the match snapped BG's scoreless stretch at a school-record 445:03 ... the old record was 340:24, set in 2002 (Sept. 27-Oct. 6).

Shingler was in net for nearly all of that streak ... her shutout string ended at a BG-record 432:19, the equivalent of nearly six regulation games ... the old mark was the aforementioned 340:24 streak in 2002, set by Erika Flanders ... Shingler now has two of the three longest individual shutout streaks in BG annals.

Trundle, already the BGSU career leader in assists, now owns a share of the single-season record in that category ... Trundle's helper at CMU Friday was her ninth of the season ... she has tied the record set by Jill Conover in 2000 and matched by Leah Eggleton last fall.

Trundle now has a school-record 32 assists in her career ... she has recorded at least seven assists in each of her four seasons ... only Conover (two) had more than one season of seven or more assists.

Trundle continues to increase her school record for career matches started ... the EMU match marked the 82nd start of her career ... the old record was 79, set by Beth Rieman (2001-04) ... Trundle has played in a total of 85 matches, one behind Rieman and two in back of Kristy Coppes on that list.

LEADERS OF THE MAC
Falcon players are at or near the top of a number of MAC lists ... senior Julie Trundle leads the league in both assists (nine) and assists per match (0.50) ... senior Samantha Meister is second in the MAC in points (18), while classmate Britt Anderson is tied for third (16) ... Trundle is tied for fifth in the league in that category (15) ... Anderson and Meister are deadlocked for third in points per game (1.00), with Trundle sixth (0.83) ... Anderson and Meister are tied for third in assists, with six apiece ... Meister is tied for fourth in goals (six), with Anderson and freshman Corbie Yee deadlocked for seventh (five) ... at the other end of the field, senior goalkeeper Ali Shingler is third in the MAC in saves (89), tied for fourth in shutouts (four), fifth in saves per match (4.94) and seventh in saves pct. (.788) ... in MAC matches only, Trundle leads the league in assists (six) and assists per match (0.60) ... as a team, BG paces the entire MAC in goals, assists and points in conference matches.
