CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference announced Thursday (Nov. 10) that the 2006 MAC Softball Tournament will be held at Currie Stadium in Midland, Mich. It will be the second neutral location for the tournament, which has been held at Firestone Stadium in Akron, Ohio, since 2002.
Currie Stadium played host to the U.S.A. Olympic Softball Team in 2003, when the squad was making stops across the country in the "Aiming for Athens" tour. Midland was the only stop in the state of Michigan for the team during the campaign. The facility has attendance capabilities for up to 7,000 people, boasts a large press box, and includes two other practice diamonds at adjacent Emerson Park that can be utilized by teams prior to playing all games inside Currie Stadium.
Currie Stadium hosted the 2005 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Softball Tournament. Midland is located near Saginaw and Bay City, and is about 30 miles east of Mount Pleasant, Mich.
The 2006 MAC Softball Tournament will be held from May 11-13.
