BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Coach Keri Buff's Falcon swimming and diving program is on the verge of breaking into CollegeSwimming.com's D-I Mid-Major Top Ten Power rankings. The Falcons have overcome a two spot increase to move the team from No. 13 to No. 11. As of the second poll release, BGSU (230.07) was a mere .51 points behind Mid-American Conference rival University of Toledo (230.58). Harvard University, which was previously unranked, has taken over the top ranking with 244.36 points dual meet points.
Bowling Green's strong seventh place finish in the early December Ohio State Swimming and Diving Invitational helped the Falcons gain the needed edge to move ahead amongst their Mid-Major competition America East, Atlantic 10, Big West, Colonial Athletic Association, EISL, Horizon League, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-America, Mid-Continent, Missouri Valley, North Eastern, Patriot, and Sun Belt conferences.
Overall, the MAC has made a power surge in the second set of rankings placing four teams in the Top Ten consisting of Miami (Oh), Eastern Michigan, Akron and Toledo. Since the November rankings, Toledo, the then lone Top Ten contender is the only team in the MAC to make a plunge, falling from second to tenth.
The Power Rankings are a relative indication of a team's strength in dual meets. The mid-major support institutions that do not benefit from large football and basketball television agreements and are based on each team's best dual meet lineup as judged and submitted by participating teams.
