Falcons Shine On Record-Breaking Night

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University gymnastics team, with a score of 196.100 downed both Southeast Missouri State (194.525) and Wisconsin Oshkosh (187.950), on a record-breaking night. The Falcons score of 196.100 established a new school record, breaking the previous score of 195.975 set back in 2002 versus Air Force.
The Brown and Orange established season-highs on all four events, posting marks of 48.650 (vault), 49.125 (bars), 49.025 (beam) and 49.300 (floor).
BGSU claimed three of the top four spots on the vault with junior Jessica Guyer bringing home top honors with a season-high 9.825 (fifth all-time in the BGSU record books). Freshman Jayme Stambaugh and sophomore Jessica McArthur finished in a tie for second with a 9.775.
On the uneven bars, senior Kari Elste tied the school record of 9.950, also capturing first place. Junior Jessica Bradley posted the third highest mark in school history with a 9.875 for second place.
On the beam, BGSU captured the top three spots with Guyer and freshman Jessica Ewart both posting scores of 9.850, Falcon-bests this season. Sophomore Bethany Kenel finished third with a 9.825.
The floor exercise saw all six Falcons post scores of 9.775 or better. Guyer led the bunch with a first-place finishing score of 9.950 (second-best all-time), followed by senior Kristin DiPietro (9.900), sophomore Erin Coudriet (9.875), Jacquelyn Bernhardt (9.800) and senior Breanne Metzger (9.775).
Metzger also finished second in the all-around with a career-best 38.925.
Up next for the Falcons is a trip to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, as they will compete with the University of Pittsburgh and Michigan State on Feb. 26. The meet is set to begin at 8:00 p.m.
