With the loss, BGSU falls into a first place tie with Western Michigan in the race for the MAC West Championship with a 9-6 record. Toledo, 8-6, will play at Ball State, 7-7, Thursday night.
Despite the loss, BGSU, along with Buffalo, are the only teams with a record of .500 (4-4) on the road in the MAC. The Falcons have one more road tilt, March 2 at Western Michigan.
NIU shot an opponent season-high 57.9% from three-point range making 11 of 19 long distance shots.
BGSU shot under 40% for just the third time this season (at Oakland and at Toledo).
The Falcons held a 35-30 rebounding edge and won the battle of the boards for the ninth time in 10 games.
The Falcons jumped out the gate and led 16-5 with 11:43 left in the first half and 19-8 with 9:51 left until intermission.
NIU built a 49-29 lead with 12:13 left in the game, but BGSU went on a 24-4 run and cut the Huskie advantage to 53-49 with 4:58 remaining.
Player Notes
Senior John Reimold went over the 20-point mark for the third straight game and finished with 22 points. He also had eight rebounds and two steals. With 1,280 career points, he is 20th on the school's all-time scoring list.
Senior Josh Almanson scored 14 points and had two rebounds and two assists. He is now 29th on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,064 points.
Freshman Scott Vandermeer had a season-high seven points and added five rebounds.
Sophomore Austin Montgomery had a season-high six points.
Sophomore Matt Lefeld played a MAC season-high eight minutes and had an offense rebound and assists during the Falcons' 24-4 run in the second half.
