FAMILIAR FOES
The Falcons will face the Bobcats for the second time in nine days. On January 29, Ohio rallied to post a 72-69 win over the Falcons. The Bobcats defeated WEstern Michigan, 89-85 on Saturday.
Each of the Falcons' last four games have been decided in the final minute. BGSU won games against Toledo (70-69) and Central Michigan (77-73) and lost against Ohio and Akron (71-69)
BGSU is 73-17 at Anderson Arena since the 1998-99 season. Last year, BGSU defeated the Bobcats 81-71 and 56-54 (1st round of the MAC Tournament) in Anderson Arena and have won the last four meetings in BG.
The Falcons are in their eighth season under head coach Dan Dakich. Dakich is second all-time at BGSU in winning percentage (.572) and fifth all-time in wins with a 128-96 record. He and his family were honored by the Red Cross prior to the NIU game for raising $1,777 for victims of the recent tsunami disaster overseas.
With a 77-59 MAC record, he ranks 11th all-time in conference game winning percentage and is 11th in MAC history in overall winning percentage. He also is one of just 19 MAC coaches to ever win 125 games or more at his institution and his 77 league wins rank 12th all-time in MAC history.
The Falcons lead the MAC and are ranked 10th in the country shooting 50.1% from the field this season. BGSU also ranks 10th in the nation and leads the league in assists at 17.8 per game. BGSU also leads the league in free throw shooting at 75.3%. The Falcons are second in blocked shots at 3.8 per game. The Falcons have taken a league-low 312 free throw attempts (17.3 per game).
BGSU senior's Josh Almanson and John Reimold make up the top scoring duo in the MAC averaging 35.1 points per game combined.
Almanson leads the MAC averaging 17.8 points on 61.0% (15th in the nation) shooting from the field. He also is eighth in the league in blocked shots (1.0). He had 21 points against Akron, the sixth time this season he has scored 20 points or more in agame. He is the ninth most improved player in the country in scoring average adding 9.6 points per game to his total from a year ago. He has scored 957 points in his career and is looking to be the 34th player in BGSU history to score 1,000 points or more in a career.
Reimold is fourth in the MAC averaging 17.3 points, and ranks second in the league in field goal percentage (55.6%) and first in three-point field goal percentage (50.0%). He had 18 points against Akron. His three-point field goal percentage was fourth nationally last week. He has scored 1,557 points as a collegian (1,155 at BGSU and 402 at Loyola-Maryland as a freshman).
FITCH IS OUT FOR THE SEASON
Junior Germain Fitch is out for the season after tearing the ACL in his left knee again. He was injured after the Toledo game when a fan celebrating the victory, in which Fitch made a key defensive stop and the game-winning bucket with 28 seconds left, ran into him as students charged the floor. Prior to this year, he had undergone three knee surgeries to repair two torn ACL's. He had a career-high 12 points and eight rebounds against the Rockets. While never one of the team's leading scorers his effort and his ability to make others better makes him perhaps the most valuable Falcon. He also has had key late-game baskets against Buffalo and Marshall to secure Falcon victories. Due to injury he has been unavailable for 47 games during his career, which began in 2001-02. In those games, BGSU is 19-28 (.410), while posting a 43-20 record (.683) in games that Fitch is able to play.
