Bowling Green, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University Athletic Department is announcing that the weekend of Feb. 18-20 will be "MS Awareness Weekend at the BGSU Ice Arena." The Falcons host Central Collegiate Hockey Association foe Western Michigan, Feb. 18 and 19, at 7:05 p.m. To cap off the weekend, the Falcon Hockey team will sponsor its annual "Skate With the Falcons" on Sunday, Feb. 20, from 7 to 7:45 p.m. in the BGSU Ice Arena.
Throughout the weekend, Multiple Sclerosis "Prism Pins" and "Bands of Hope" bracelets will be available via donations, with all proceeds raised going to the Multiple Sclerosis Society. In addition, autographed memorabilia of seven-time NHL All-Star Rob Blake and current Falcon Jordan Sigalet will be raffled off with proceeds going towards the MS Society. And all money raised from the annual "Skate With the Falcons" on Sunday, Feb. 20, will go towards the MS Society.
Following the "Skate With the Falcons" on Sunday, pizza will be served by the Falcon Hockey team at 7:45 p.m. Cost of the event is $6, while admission for children wearing their hockey team jacket or jersey will be $5.
"I want to encourage everyone that can to come to the Ice Arena that weekend to help be a part of finding a cure for this disease," said BGSU student-athlete Jordan Sigalet.
Sigalet, a senior goaltender for the Falcons, is a 2005 Hobey Baker Award candidate, a BGSU tri-captain, and a 2001 seventh-round draft pick of the Boston Bruins. He announced on Dec. 11, 2004, that he has multiple sclerosis. MS is an inflammatory disease of the central nervous system that can effect the brain and the spinal cord. Symptoms include numbness involving the body, as well as effects on one's vision, muscles, and reflexes.
