Casey McDowell Named MAC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week

Cleveland, Ohio - Bowling Green's Casey McDowell (basketball) and Buffalo's Turner Battle (basketball) were named the MAC Scholar Athletes of the Week on March 14, 2005.
McDowell (guard, Jr., 3.30, physical education/teacher education, Hudson, Ohio)was named to the 2005 MAC All-Tournament team after leading BGSU to the team title and berth to the NCAA Tournament. She scored a career-high 31 points in the Falcon's quarterfinal win over Miami. In that game, her seven 3-pointers tied a school record and MAC Tournament record. She averaged 16.3 ppg, while shooting 60.9 pct. from the field and 68.8 pct. from 3-point range. She also tied the tournament record with 11 made 3-point field goals.
Battle (guard, Sr., 3.557, communication, Kernersville, N.C.) was named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Year and averaged 15.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists in UB's four-game run through the MAC Tournament. The senior guard scored 22 points while adding eight rebounds and six assists in the championship game against Ohio, and his seven free throws in the final minute sealed the semifinal victory over Western Michigan. Battle leads the Bulls with 15.5 points and 4.4 assists this season.
The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. The winners are selected by a voting group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
