BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Karie Sahly has joined the Bowling Green State University women's soccer program. Sahly, a transfer from Valparaiso University, will have three years of eligibility remaining.
A native of Naperville, Ill. (Naperville Central H.S.), Sahly played in all 20 games as a freshman for Valparaiso last fall, and had a total of five points for the Crusaders in 2004. A defender, she had three points in a 3-0 win over Oakland, with a goal and an assist. Sahly also found the back of the net in Valparaiso's game vs. Illinois State.
The 5-7 Sahly was a four-year letterwinner for Naperville Central, helping that team to regional titles in both 2002 and 2004. A two-time all-conference selection, she also earned all-sectional accolades on two occasions.
Sahly played club soccer with NSA Premier, helping that team to four state championships.
"We are delighted to welcome Karie to the Bowling Green program, and we look forward to adding her experience to the defensive line," said BGSU head coach Andy Richards. "Her tenacious style of play and exuberant personality will enhance not only the team's ability to shut down opponents, but also their competitive drive."
Sahly's addition gives the Falcons eight newcomers for the 2005 season. Last month, Richards and his staff announced the signing of seven student athletes -- Amanda Campbell (Cincinnati, Ohio), Brianne Eisenhard (West Chester, Ohio), Susan Hunter (Sidney, Ohio), Kristin McDonald (Troy, Ohio), Meredith Repke (Naperville, Ill.), Corbie Yee (Berea, Ohio) and Christy Zabek (Hendersonville, Tenn.).
The Falcons finished the 2004 season with an overall record of 10-12-2, including a 5-5-2 mark in Mid-American Conference play. The Falcons, seeded eighth for the league tournament, won the title and advanced to the NCAA Championships for the first time in school history.
