DiPietro And Guyer To Serve As Alternates At NCAA Regionals

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - A pair of BGSU gymnast will serve as alternates to the NCAA Central Regionals on April 9 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, hosted by the University of Alabama. Senior Kristin DiPietro will be an alternate in the all-around, while junior Jessica Guyer will serve as an alternate on both the floor exercise and vault.
DiPietro, a native of Westerville, Ohio, has posted five of the top seven all-around performances for the Falcons this season, including a season-best 38.775 versus Southeast Missouri State, where she finished second. This season she has established new career-bests on the bars (9.725) and floor (9.900) and owns the fourth-best all-around performance in school history with a 38.975 set last season.
Guyer, a native of Columbus, Ohio, has registered 11 first-place finishes throughout the season. She finished first on the floor exercise five times throughout the year including a career-high 9.950 versus Southeast Missouri State and a 9.900 against Western Michigan. She also has four first-place finishes on the vault, including a 9.825 vs. SEMO and 9.775's versus Eastern Michigan and Ball State. She was named MAC Specialist of the Week once, where she finished first on the floor and beam against Western Michigan. Though she will not be competing on the beam, she has also recorded two first-place finishes on that event with a 9.850 versus SEMO and a 9.825 vs. Western Michigan.
REGIONAL INFORMATION
The University of Alabama, host of the Central Regional, will host No. 9 ranked Iowa State, No. 14 Utah State, Auburn, Kentucky and Kent State. Alabama is No. 4 going into the regional. The NCAA Central Regional is Saturday, April 9 at 6 p.m. CT in Coleman Coliseum. Tickets are available through the Alabama Ticket Office (205.348.2262) and online at www.rolltide.com.
Six teams, five all-around competitors (who are not on a qualifying team) and one individual event specialist per event [who has a minimum qualifying score (RQS) of 9.4] were named to each of the six regions. The top two teams and the top two all-around competitors (who are not on an advancing team) from each regional will receive an automatic berth to the national championships in Auburn, Alabama, April 21-23, hosted by Auburn University.
In addition, the event winners at the regional championships will advance to the national championships (in that event only) if they are not part of a qualifying team or the all-around qualifiers.
