The Postseason Is HERE!
The first round of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association Playoffs are here, in Bowling Green, this weekend, March 11-13. The best-of-three series will pit No. 5 seed BGSU vs. No. 8 seed Alaska Fairbanks at 7:05 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Sunday's game, if necessary, will be at 5:05 p.m.
It's Been Too Long for This to Happen
For the first time in a decade, BGSU will host a CCHA Playoff series on home ice when Alaska Fairbanks comes to town (March 11-13). The best-of-three series for the Falcons is their first at home since March 10-11, 1995, when they swept Notre Dame (7-2 and 5-4). BGSU did not make the playoffs in the 1997-98 season.
Hello Stranger!
UAF is the only CCHA member that the Falcons have not met in the league playoffs. That will change this weekend. BGSU leads the all-time series vs. the Nanooks (16-12-4) and are 9-5-2 at home against the UAF. BGSU swept UAF earlier this year at home (6-2 and 6-1).
BGSU and the CCHA Playoffs
•BGSU is 33-3-0 at home in the CCHA Playoffs and 7-17-0 in Joe Louis Arena. Overall, BGSU is 55- 36-2 in 31 years of CCHA Playoffs. BGSU has dropped seven straight CCHA playoff games. The last win for the Falcons in the postseason came on March 13, 2001, when BGSU won at Northern Michigan in overtime, 2-1. That win propelled the Falcons to Joe Louis Arena where they lost to #4 Michigan State, 2-1.
•Of BGSU's last 13 playoff games, 12 have been decided by two goals or less and nine have been decided by one goal.
•JR Brett Pilkington leads current Falcons with 1-2--3 in four playoff games while three Falcons have two goals each, including JR Ryan Barnett, SR Steve Brudzewski, and JR Mike Falk. SR Jordan Sigalet has played in three playoff games with a .927 save pct. and 3.08 gaa. in 175:19 minutes of work.
•BGSU has played in 19 best-of-three series in the CCHA Playoffs. Only two of those have not resulted in either the Falcons sweeping or being swept. BGSU won both of the series that went to three games, including at Michigan (March 3-5, 1989) and at home vs. Ferris State (Feb. 27-March 1, 1987).
•The Falcons have won 10 consecutive games at home in the playoffs, with the last home-ice defeat in the postseason coming Feb. 27, 1987, vs. Ferris State (6-4 loss).
